Mo Bamba commits to Texas

Submitted by SAMgO on

Per the twitterz. Longshot from the start, but at least now there is definitely room for everyone to come back.

He already played for Smart.  And there was a lot of smoke on the internet that it was down to Kentucky and Texas.

This means Michigan will play against him (assuming he's healthy) this coming season.

...the other elite eight teams had a good number of 5 star and 4 star talent.  College BB recruiting rankings are not fools gold.

If you're going to have guys leave early, you need high level talent coming in that can contribute right away and balance out the attrition.  Or else you'll run into our condundrum.  A 1-2 year run with a team with Final Four aspirations sandwiched around 2-3 other years where we're lucky to make it to the round of 64.

Beilein signed one top 10 class at UM and immediately went to a Final 4 with it. I'd rather sign top 10 classes year after year then bank on Beilein getting the most out of several mid major 3 stars. That's just me though. Beilein is a great coach. Average to below average recruiter.

His point was that not all McDonald's All-Americans are guaranteed success. Lewis was a 5'9" shrimp from Oak Hill who never did a thing in college. He was the same year as the Fresh Five and basically was the same player as Spike, except one was nondescript 3* and the other a star-gazer's McDonald's dream.

What I'm amazed at is this board's ability to talk ourselves into ANYTHING if the news is good enough.   If somebody posts something good (but unlikely) like "Mamba definite Michigan lean" then that poster is showered with love and kisses and multiple follow-up posts will spring up with each one pushing him closer and closer to coming here.  Even though we alll know it's the longest of long shots given Beilein's aversion to the "one and done" kids.

But post something negative like "Wilson & Wagner likely to enter NBA draft" and the place wants to stone the heretic for bringing bad news.  Again, even though the past history of virtually every player in their situation during the Beilein era suggests they are gone.

Would you say that they are more interested in listening to "fans" bitch incessantly about their team/coach or less?

Maybe it isn't a "safe space" they want but to interact with people who aren't miserable and whiny all the time.

Not only are the "Beilein can't close" trolls out in force despite this being the longest of long shots, but people are upvoting them. Get your shit together, MGoBlog.

When you can't argue the merits of a point, neg the person making it. Seems to be a common theme around here.

Who knew pointing out Beilein has been here a decade and hasn't landed a single McDonalds All American would be so controversial.

Systems where you can like a comment if it's good, or leave it alone if it sucks.

The whole MgoBlog point system is just freaking stupid, because too many people aren't trying to be themselves and be honest and only want to be clever to get upvotes.

Agree, and I'd rather engage in honest conversation and have people hate me than be fake to gain acceptance from anonymous internet friends.

I went to Michigan and am a season ticket holder, so I really have nothing to say or prove to anyone who has a problem with me.

Tommy Amaker as a coach?  I think he pulled in some bigger names.  Because I went to school when he was a coach, and I was a season ticket holder during that time.  I would rather be hanging banners then making and missing the NIT

Sometimes you make points that I agree with, and I consistently think you are unnecessarily negged, but your logic of "I went to Michigan and am a season ticket holder" so I can say whatever awful point I want and not care about my reception is flawed and shows the entitlement and arrogance that all Michigan fans are generalized into.

The worst kinds of conversations tend to be with people who only care about what they have to say. You don't make points on a blog to just say them, you say them to see if other people agree or disagree with you and to have a further discussion. I don't know at what point this entire mantra of "Maizen vs. the world" started for either side of the coin, but comments like "I really have nothing to say or prove to anyone who has a problem with me" is only instigating things further instead of bringing things back to the civilized discussion that you claim to want. Just my two cents, not that you care, I'm sure.

I do appreciate your input WM and you make some fair points. I would only ask that you try to look at things from my POV as well. You mentioned that you think I am consistently unneccessarily negged and I would agree. Not only that but people take it one step further and call me names all the time, a troll, a dick, a douchebag, etc. Lots of internet tough guys around these parts, and most probably who never stepped foot on campus as a Michigan student. Not that anyone who hasn't is less of a fan or anyone who has can just say whatever they want, but to pretend they are somehow better than me is laughable.

At some point you just have to throw your hands up and stop caring what everyone else says and hope to engage with the rational and level headed posters in this community. I'm a Michigan fan not a Michigan cheerleader, and I'm going to express criticism when's it warranted. There's going to be a segment of this board who doesn't like that and that's ok with me. There's going to be people who claim it's not what I'm saying but how I'm saying it. Those are lies, and I'm not going to go out of my way to preface every negative comment with something positive to appease those people. Don't have time for that. Simply being a part of this community should let everyone know we all care about Michigan.

You said you make points on a blog to have further discussion and I agree. I'd rather not participate in a circle jerk about how great everything is at Michigan when that's not always the case. When it is I'm game. But if we can't have people present unpopular opnions without getting negged into boliva or called names every time they do so then this place is no better than 11 warriors.

I don't think most rational people on this blog have a problem with a negative opinion on things. Yes, there will always be people who like being homers and will neg away anyone who gives a contrary opion, and based on the history with you, I'm sure you will continue to get more than the average person. I can see how that can be frustrating and I understand how you may just say "fuck it" and take on a you vs. the world mentality.

For most however, if you simply went about it in a way that you made your point, but did so without making it seem like you are attacking either our coach, our teams, or other fans, people would pay more attention to what you are saying rather than ignore the point and concentrate on you "trolling".

I am like you. I think Beilien is one of the best coaches in the country, but often find myself wishing he recruited better, or at least tried to get more solid players from high school then trying to make diamonds from coal. And we are not alone. There are many respected posters on this board who criticize aspects of Michigan athletics, I just think your common theme of getting defensive and using sarcasm to take jabs at people rubs people the wrong way and maybe you would be better off biting the bullet and concentrating on the point you are trying to make instead of embarking on these 20 comment battles every time you make a point. Eventually, the heat will die down and we will have more positive discussion.

I said Beilein is a great coach but pointed out he's never landed a McDonalds All American and people got all up in their feelings. I don't know how to dress it up any better, and frankly have no desire to. People are going to react how they react and worrying about it anymore is just a waste of time as I can't control them. There's a double standard around here where people can say whatever they want to me and call me names but I'm the one who is expected to change. Nah, not going to play like that.
