of course he's going to talk primarily about them.  Even Rivals has a story up about those visits.  Most kids will talk about their most recent trip, especially when being interviewed by reporters from scouting services from those areas.

Let's wait until he starts talking after he's away from a weekend visit.  Cross fingers.

Michigan - 192 words

UNC- 192 words

Duke - 301 words

If you're going by word count, Duke is number 1.  The things he says about Duke certainly make them sound like a favorite.  The difference I see in what he wrote about Michigan is that he mentions only one person by name - Zack Novack.  No other players or coaches.   Odd.  Then again perhaps recency of the visits has a lot to do with things.

It is only going to take one recruit like this signing with the Wolverines to make it "cool" for top players to play at Michigan.  Even though he was terribly misused and miscoached by Bill Frieder, Antoine Joubert was that breakthrough player in the 1980's.  From Joubert until it all fell apart, Michigan was a large recruiting presense, both instate and nationally.

The "tipping point" will happen soon, anyway.  It would be nice if McGary turned out to be THE player who put MIchigan back in the top ten as a destination for great basketball players.

Harrison Barnes vast shoe collection?  I had sh*t for shoes until I started getting paid, just sayin'.

Clearly the summary is Michigan has the best fans / environment.  North Carolina has the White Big Man Factor.  Duke has Coach K and the NBA draft factor.

It sounds like he had a great time at Michigan and we are right there with the other schools. He needs to decide whether he believes in Beilein and if he wants to take a chance on a program that is clearly on the rise. UNC and Duke have proven they can put players in the NBA lottery and that has got be appealing. I hope we get him, but it's not like GRIII and Stauskus are chopped liver - this program is looking good.

Just based on this article which is not much to go on. He raved about the Duke visit and called his host "my boy" . UM is in it though, we shall see.

but I still think it would be a huge "upset" if we landed him, considering the established powers that are after him. Denver nails it: does Mitch want to join a program that's been at the top, or does he want to help build something that's been down but is on the rise now?

Michigan is a sleeping giant in basketball. There's no reason whatsoever that we can't be an elite program able to compete with anybody in the country.

It looks like its duke, michigan, unc and in that order. With that said he just got back from the duke visit so thats fresh in his mind and will therefore talk about it the most.

Interesting choices. All great schools(UM, UNC, Duke) with great coaches. At UM, though, he gets to be the man and the focus of the bball program, whereas at Duke and UNC he's just another stud recruit who might or might not work out.

He isn't a wealthy, stuck-up son of a former NBA player or current head coach so it is not completely preordained that he will go to Duke.

God I hate that program with a passion of 100,000 suns.

Don't forget the other factors, His boy GR III is already committed to Michigan. His coach seems to really like Beilein and the program.  He said he really liked how Mitch would be used in Michigan's offense. His mother raved about the campus and facilities at Michigan. Plus Michigan is a way closer trip for the folks to come and watch him. I still think Michigan is sitting pretty, never underestimate the power of the mom or the teammate already going there or the AAU coach who seems to think that Michigan has the best coach for you to play for.

Michigan-centric poeple like Sam Webb are always quick to mention McGary's friendship with Robinson III, but it's funny how they always seem to neglect to talk about another, similar "factor." McGary has another very good friend, T. J. Warren, who is attending Brewster Academy with McGary and was with McGary on his visit to UNC. There are rumors out there that Warren silently committed to UNC during that visit, but even if he didn't there's a strong chance he's going to pick UNC in the end. Warren is certainly going to be in McGary's ear about the two of them attending UNC together, and unlike Robinson III, Warren's going to be right there with McGary throughout this entire school year.

In response to some of the other posts above, I just want to add that I think that Florida, Maryland, and Kentucky are still very much in the running for McGary. For example, Maryland's head coach and two of his assistants are going to be at Brewster today to meet with McGary.

The bottom line is that McGary is a long way away from making a decision, and I don't think anyone has a clue which of the six schools he's going to pick.

It's normal that recruits make a lot of enthusiastic comments right after a visit.  It's part of the game.  So, reading too much into Mitch's blog post can be dangerous.  After he's back home a while, and reflects on all his choices, talks to his coach, parents, etc, he'll make a rational decision.  And I think Michigan still has a good shot based on everything we've heard to date.
