Minn. - 2 returning starters, 1 suspended indefinitely
Our situation on defense could be a lot worse. One of Minnesota's two returning starters on defense just got a DUI.

I'd feel better if we were scheduled to play them this year.
That's one team we can always pound into the ground. Too bad they're not on the schedule.
Well, not always (2005?). The Gophers have defeated Michigan TWICE in my lifetime, and I'm (EL GUAPO) 33 YEARS OLD.
But your general sentiment is right. However, the Gophers will be improved in 2011 with 9 returning defensive starters, as well as MarQueis Gray at QB. They may be more competitive than in the past, but I still expect Michigan to retain the Jug.
They'll find a way to screw up. They're Minnesota.
I'm a Gopher season ticket holder (why? I live in Minnesota), so I follow the Geauxfurs team.
If you think the Wolverines have tough goings on defense (I would submit they will not this year), consider this:
The ONLY Gopher defender that would start for Michigan is S Kim Royston, and that is debatable (if Emilien is healthy, or Woolfolk were to be moved to safety, Royston would be on the bench).
Further, Jordan Kovacs is better than any defensive back on their roster, except, MAYBE, CB Michael Carter.
So please, a little perspective. Michigan's got the depth and the numbers. And it is in no danger of giving up 65 points this year, like Minnesota very well may to USC on 9/18.

Complimenting Minnesota on their decisions to give young student athletes a second chance and how they out recruit Michigan in their state.
They do everything the right way!

the defense is super epic. Minnesota has the ball for roughly 1:30 each time they get the ball back. incredible
who is Minnesota's QB in this game? he threw that ball 60+ yards at the end without a grand windup.
He also had a 50-yard TD run on a designed QB sneak in the fourth quarter. (You can tell this is from WolverineHistorian's earlier work, because he now shows the opponents' scoring plays, too.)

"It's unclear if he'll return before the end of spring ball." Really? Man, if that's even a remote possibility, I guess I'll get even more cynical about the motivations of the typical college football coach.
