I am as happy as the next person, but any team that let this nonsense carry on for eight seasons has no hope no matter who is fired....Now we are left with a roster of players no one wants that fit some system that worked 10 years ago, we need a new coach and who in their right mind would ruin their career to come here?  I know I am overly pessimistic but has there ever been any reason to feel positive about this team?  Go lions!

I can't imagine Millen leaving without taking Marenilli with him.  He is a good postion coach and should never have a job higher than that ever again.

Millen resigns; to join 'Wings front office
The Detroit Free Press
September 24, 2008
UPDATED 12:57 EDT
DETROIT -- Matt Millen, the often criticized and controversial president and general manager of the Detroit Lions, is leaving the Lions organization for the Detroit Red Wings.
The original story of Millen's departure, broken early Wednesday morning by Fox Sports Online, gave no clues as to whether Millen had been fired during a meeting late Tuesday, or whether the former television analyst resigned from his position.
Criticism of Millen on Monday by William C. Ford, Jr., son of Lions owner William C. Ford, Sr., fueled speculation that Millen's days as a Lion were numbered, but it seems Millen had one trick left up his sleeve.
Sources in Fox Town, speaking on condition of anonymity because a deal with the Red Wings has not yet been announced, have told the Free Press that Millen will assume the position of President, Commissar, and Dear Leader with the Detroit National Hockey League club.
The Red Wings' front office was left decimated late Tuesday night when Ken Holland, Jim Devellano, and Steve Yzerman, the stalwarts of the Wings' management sector, left for the sunny shores and cheap real estate of Galveston, TX, where they will develop a new IHL franchise, to be named the Galveston Devestation.
Millen was reached for comment by cell phone while packing up his Lions office.  He told the Free Press, 'Yeah, the Lions were a good stepping stone to the NHL.  I feel that now I have the ability to run any leading sports franchise; because of the Lions, my knowledge of the business has grown exponentially.  I won 31 games in seven seasons with the Lions.  I guarantee we'll beat that in two years with the Wings.'
'Seriously, it took you guys this long to catch on?  Why do you think I've been rocking my playoff beard?  It ain't because the ladies like how it feels on their boobies.  Up top, brah!'
The Fords did not return the Freep's phone calls.

I love the fact that you can ask this question:

"Who is the last NFL GM to have as bad of a record as Millen?"

Answer: No one.  They've all been fired well in advance of that level of suckatude.

This is a step in the right direction, but it by no means solves the Lions' problems.  They need to fire everyone, frrom WC Ford Sr. all the way down to the Ford Field janitors, and start with a clean slate.

By the way, overheard on ESPN late last night:  "During his tenure, Matt Millen managed to assemble the most inept group of Lions since King Darius of Persia."

 LOLz!!!

(In case you don't get that, it's a reference to the story of Daniel and the lions' den from the Old Testament.)
