Military Appreciation Game at The Big House (Sept 10)

Submitted by Late Bluemer on

Not sure if everyone saw this, but the 9/10 home game against Central Florida has been designated the 2016 “Military Appreciation Game”.  Season ticket holders that cannot use their tickets are encouraged to donate their tickets to veterans or current members of the armed services.  We are going to be out of town at a wedding that weekend so we are donating our tickets – I assume through the athletic department – the wife is taking care of that so I am not sure exactly how it works.  I wish I could be at the game to see the salute since it sounds like they are going to do some pretty cool stuff.

The OP is the first time I've ever heard of a system for donating tickets to vets.

The fiancee and I were already planning on attending the UCF game, but I haven't bought the tickets yet.  If anyone else is planning on donating, please let me know.  We can only afford to make one game a year, so having a little extra money in my pocket and still being able to see the game would be wonderful.

I would be happy to donate my tickets to a veteran or active military for the UCF game as a show of my appreciation.  I have two tickets:  Sec 6, row 22, seats 5&6 (2 seats from the aisle).  Just give me your e-mail if you're still interested.  My father was an officer in the Navy (always planned on joining the Navy as well, however that ship has since sailed)

PS: I hate to be cynical, but will kindly ask for some form of documentation supporting your above status.

Damn, looks like a fellow service member/veteran beat you to the punch.

Will respond to your e-mail personally, but wanted the boad to know that my tickets are going elsewhere so if  they can step up and help that would be great!

I was thinking the same thing...I thought you may have been using another username or something, but no, someone swooped in after you had done the legwork.  That's pretty crappy, IMO.

I admit that I was bummed, but no more than that.  This gentleman is being kind to vets and I wouldn't second guess his generosity for a moment.

It truly is all good.  I'll either find another person to donate tickets or I'll buy them just as I had originally planned.

Thanks for the support, though.  I appreciate it.

This a an organization that I know in the past has recieved and issued Michigan tickets from the university. You have to be a verifed member to join, but anyone can donate. Always a good way to show appreciation to a veteran.

Go Navy!

I would love to know more. I was looking to take my son to his first game that weekend or the next. I'm a retired Army Senior Non-Com and a life long Wolverine. I'd appreciate any info the board might share.

As a veteran and a fan, I am ashamed to say I've never been to a Michigan game. I personally was hoping for mizzou to join the B1G, so I could see Michigan play while I was stationed in Missouri. I think this will be the game I go to. I just don't want to burden you guys for your tickets. I would love to buy 3 tickets and take my son and wife to the game. If anyone has some. Let me know. Thanks

I am currently out working, so I won't be able to attend or watch (no AFN connection) any games this year.  I can at least track the games by you all here at MGoBlog and ESPN live updates (works well on a terrible internet connection), so huge thanks to everyone for that.

This is a great idea though. Not to speak for Active Duty Servicemen or Veteran, but this kind of support is always appreciated and is awesome to see.

The program is being run by the Athletic Department, it is quite simple and painless. You just log into your account and "return" the tickets, even if you have received them in the mail; the Department has a "donation" box checked in already, so no chance to mess it up. Your printed tickets become invalid and new tickets are issued to the recipients.

Go Blue, Go Marine Corps...or Go Navy if they are playing Army.

I also think it is really nice of people to offer up some tickets to vets, very nice gesture. Thanks from all us vets.
