Michigan Softball vs Missouri Game 2 Open Thread [UPDATE: M WINS, ADVANCES TO WORLD SERIES]

Submitted by tlo2485 on

Michigan took game 1 yesterday 5-3 and will go for the sweep vs Missouri today at noon in Ann Arbor on ESPN.

The winner advances to the Women's College World Series and will face LSU in the first round.

Game 3 (if necessary) would follow after a short break on ESPNU.

If Michigan wins and advances to the World Series, is that a final four? Eight? What happens from here (a few three-game series, single elimination, etc.)?

WCWS is the Elite Eight equivalent.

Essentially there are two four team double elimination brackets. Bascially the same as the Regional format. And then the winner of each bracket advances to the National Championship (another best 2 out of 3 series).

The one difference from the Regional is that the teams that win their first game but lose their second switch into the other side of the bracket.

No problem.

We would start out in a "Regional" with Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma.

The other side of the bracket has Georgia and Florida State so far, and will include the winners of the Auburn/Arizona and Oregon/UCLA series. Arizona (who is unseeded) won Game 1. If they can hold on and beat Auburn, the other side of the bracket will be MUCHHH weaker than ours.

Our side would have the #2, #3, #6 and #10 seeds. The other side would have the #5, #8, #16 and one unranked team (assuming the Game 1 winners Oregon and Arizona advance, which is a big assumption).

True. We also have beaten Oklahoma this season, Florida State twice this season, and beat Georgia twice last year.

The only teams that really scare me (as in I think it would be more of a toss up than a game in which we were favored) are Oregon and Oklahoma. Oklahoma has been really hot, they have the longest win streak in the country currently. And Oregon has looked good as well, especially in the tournament.

I watch some softball and can't say I've ever seen a girl protest a call, they all just accept it and move on. The way it should be and refreshing. Let the coaches do the dirty work

Has Susalla had a single hit in the last few games? I really think Hutch needs to move her down the order. She's clearly struggling the most of any batter on the team at the moment. It's not just that she's not getting hits, but she goes down easily, in short at bats.

Hate to say it, but I don't see her as irreplaceable in the outfield, either. It's just too late probably to put someone else out there and trust them. I agree with the pinch hitter, though, as I posted above.

Defense is clutch so far this series! Have seen a lot of other top teams make tons of costly infield mistakes so far in other games this weekend.
