Carol Hutchins is the winningest softball coach in NCAA history, but possibly her most notable victory came on Monday off the field.

The Wolverines' softball team became the first women's collegiate team to raise $1 million for the American Cancer Society.

"I think it is one of the greatest things we have done here as far as giving back to the community and giving back to society," Michigan's 34th-year head coach said Tuesday.

They may have lost the game to WMU, but that's one hell of an accomplishment, led by one hell of a coach and person.  Kudos to Hutch.  I'm beyond proud that she's ours.

That's amazing.

Not to be a cynical douchebag, but I wonder how much has been spent on cancer research the past 50 years? Billions upon billions, certainly. I know treatments have gotten much better over that time, but the disease still remains so deadly for so many. Amazingly frustrating...

is cancer isn't ONE disease, so finding a cure isn't like curing mumps.  Cancer takes on many forms, and has different causes and different triggers in every part of the body.  That's why it's such a monster.  There will never be one cure, there will be thousands, because there are thousands of forms of it.
