USA Today has a Player of the Year poll posted that includes three Michigan recruits for three of the eight categories. Here are the players, categories, and links.

ALL-USA Offensive POY: Southeast

Eric Gray

School: Lausanne Collegiate (Memphis)
Pos: RB
Ht/Wt: 5-10/195
Year: Senior
College: Michigan
Noteworthy: Rushed for 1,328 yards and 22 TDs. averaging 11.1 yards per carry this season.

ALL-USA Defensive POY: Southwest

Daxton Hill

School: Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, Okla.)
Pos: S
Ht/Wt: 6-0, 186
Year: Senior
College: Michigan
Noteworthy: The nation's top safety recruit, Hill is hyperactive and already possesses NFL-ready speed, with a 4.3 second 40-yard dash and 4.22 second shuttle run. The All-American Bowl player has 45 tackles (30 solo) and 2 forced turnovers across just six games.

ALL-USA Defensive POY: Midwest

Mazi Smith

School: East Kentwood (Mich.)
Position: DT
Ht/Wt: 6-3/290
Year: Senior
College: Michigan
Noteworthy: After being moved to nose guard after week 2, East Kentwood’s defense has dominated. His constant demand of double teams has allowed the Falcon defense to excel. He is a force that no one has an answer for.

It states in italics, on the bottom of those player profiles, the following: "Note: Poll results are not used in  selection of the player of the year."

So basically, the poll is just for fun. It's not going to determine if they win POTY within their respective categories. I plan to vote, but I just wanted to point that out.

I don't get why anybody would care about this, regardless whether the online votes count or not. It has zero impact on how well they play, how talented they are, or whether they end up actually signing with Michigan.
