Michigan Playing At Notre Dame Stadium... in Hockey
Interesting news: Looks like Michigan Hockey is playing at Notre Dame Stadium in the leadup to the Winter Classic.
The @umichhockey team will play @NDHockey in an outdoor game as part of the @TheNHLWinter Classic.

What's weird about this is that this would theoretically take place at roughly the same time the GLI does. How are they working this?
I'm in. It'd be cool to see their stadium that way
I bet you'll save a ton of money compared to a football game.
Good... beat their ass twice in their own stadium in one year!
It was said at the time that the move was a one-time scheduling quirk due to the late move of the Pistons to the LCA.
I was actually hoping to catch a GLI in a year or two to see the new arena. I wonder if that will ever happen.
Spath supplements with this:
Michigan hockey will be able to participate in both the Great Lakes invitational the final weekend of December and an outdoor game with Notre Dame the first weekend of January.

a great setting and game! Looking forward to seeing it.
I just think 'terrible ice' when I hear it now
There's one big downside here: ND's field surface is essentially level with their seating, much the same way Michigan Stadium was before the grass installation in '91. Sightlines are going to suck for a good chunk of the stadium, even more than your average outdoor game.
How shallow is the rake of the first 20 or so rows? That, obviously, has a big effect on sightlines at Michigan Stadium.
Not terribly, but I can't imagine--as is usual in these games--that anyone is seeing much of anything lower than row 20 or so.
True enough.

Negged twice
Cool, man.
As a Chicago Wolverine, this makes going to the winter classic a TON more intriguing. I think you just might see me there.
I'm pretty sure the game isn't on January 1. It's "part of" the winter classic but not the same day as the winter classic. The M-ND game will be on the 6th of January--or maybe the 7th.
