Michigan offers Valdez Showers
Michigan has offered Madison Heights, MI athlete Valdez Showers. He could be a wide receiver, corner, or free safety.

I thought this had something to do with an oil spill.
I was thinking there'd be a comma or period after "offers" and was wondering why we cared that Valdez took a shower...
Golden Tate.
Golden showers.

Michigan offered a very talented kid that projects at a number of positions most notably FS and corner. Love those athletes on D
I hope he commits, like the last name.
I can wash myself.
After Greg Brown committed, I didn't really think Showers would get an offer. Given that he could play a number of positions and seems to really like Michigan, I'd be in favor of him as long as there is enough room in the class.
His name just sets up too many nicknames. 'Valdez Showers... and I'm Glad He Does'. Or the slightly more bad ass - Valdez 'Bridal' Showers.
Man, I thought the staff was going to be selective with offers with very limited schollies this year, but it seems they're throwing out offers left and right like last year. I dunno; guess we'll just see how it plays out.
With a small class, I didn't think they would have offered this many in-state guys this quickly.
If I'm counting correctly, that's 9 in-state guys so far.
Everyone knows RichRod doesn't care about or recruit the state of Michigan:)
1 Lawrence Thomas
2 DeAnthony Arnett
3 Brennen Beyer
4 Justice Hayes
5 Anthony Zettel
6 Delonte Hollowell
7 Valdez Showers
8 Shawn Conway
And second question of those 8/9 who do you actually think shouldn't have an offer if it seems like UM has offered too quickly in-state?
Onaje Miller is number 9 I believe.
Rivals shows that we offered Onaje Miller.
but I thought it had been dismissed as not a formal offer. I could be remembering wrong.
I'm not a big fan of Hollowell. And I thought Showers would be a late offer, if at all. He's a solid prospect, but not elite enough to get an April offer, IMO.
I was honestly wondering who you thought was a reach at this point and am not looking to bash you on that.
I look at who's been offered and they are all at position of needs, so none of them really stood out to me as too early. Also there seems to be an emphasis on the defensive side in-state, but maybe that's more of a function of who the top players are. They may not be 4* but they're at least going to be high 3*.
I don't really think cornerback is a position of great need at this point. We have four incoming cornerbacks plus Floyd (and Turner, who might be a safety soon). We do need to end up with a cornerback or two in the Class of 2011, but I think we've been reaching a bit so far...
I definitely think the class needs two. I'm not convinced that the four incoming CB's actually stay at CB. I think Dorsey, if he qualifies, and CC could be ultimately end up at S, along with Turner. And with Woolfolk graduating I think you still need two in this class.
But I get what you're saying that it's not the most pressing need.
And on Hollowell, he seems to have been doing pretty well in these off season camps and I think he already has his AA game invite. So while I know he's on the smaller side for corners, he seems to be holding his own in the combines.

I would guess safety myself
If we come out of the recruiting process with a mediocre class but a number of the top in state guys, I won't be too disappointed. Taking back the state might not win us national championships but it would certainly kick a big pile of sand in the face of Sparty.
I'd rather see Michigan win more National Championships.
Winning the in-state recruiting battle against MSU = Kicking sand in Sparty's face.
Winning a National Championship with Rich Rod as our coach = Dumping the Sleeping Bear Dunes on the city of East Lansing.
On the plus side, Showers committing here might spell the end of Mike Cox jokes.
If anything, that would multiply the jokes.
For example, imagine Mike Cox running a little flat route, with Valdez Showers stepping up to defend it. Now, try to describe that play without giggling.
great offer! this kid can do it all. im excited to see if he comes to ann arbor

kid definitely has some speed
I think I'm gonna call bullshit on this one....
I believe the term we use is FAKE, but yes, I certainly concur on your assessment (although it would be nice if it was a real 40 time).
Michigan offer a recruit yellow showers.
Or, in this case would that be maize showers?
Let's just hope that Notre Dame doesn't land him, because Golden Showers just sounds filthy to play against.
Is it Showers in the forecast for Michigan then?
Kids like Showers, who don't have comparable offers yet, are the type I thought we'd wait on for a bit. Showers' next best offer is Wisconsin, and I don't think that's a team we need to worry about losing kids to. He's close by, invite him to campus for a bunch of stuff to keep his interest high, but don't offer until we know how the class looks.
I guess if he's really that good though, get him now. These coaches have been pretty good thus far of knowing who to offer and who not to. I can't think of too many kids on our roster right now that I really wish we wouldn't have offered.
brings May flowers.
Showers is a player that in the past had to come to camp to earn his offer. But after being burned a few times by this approach I get the staff offering.
Give him something to think about before commiting elsewhere, keep recruiting him and keep him open. Far to many times Lloyd Carr his last few yrs didn't recruit these guys and they commited elsewhere. When the elite players went elsewhere there were no plan b kids they were in on to land....
I like this approach better, jmo
brings January Roses. Doesn't rhyme, but definitely works for me.
Darn you and your quicker thinking!
I'd rather Valdez Showers bring January Roses.
or bring deanthony arnett
maybe our coaches just offered to keep him from going to MSU.
i think RR is smarter than that, but id be lying if i said that thought didnt cross my mind.
im ok with this offer if it was much later in the recruiting process. at this point i think there are better prospects to offer out there.

I would imagine that the coaching staff is offering him for either safety or CB.
Does he play DB in high school or is he another C. Avery?

I played against Showers last year and will again this year. Dude is scary good. He honestly made our team look like a peewee flag football team. He defenitly has room to grow, but he has the potential to be something special.

So Magnus, what position do you think he would end up playing at Michigan?
April 21st, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
I honestly have no idea. He reminds me of James Rogers, so maybe he'll bounce back and forth between corner and wide receiver and corner and wide receiver and corner for his entire career.

You think he'll be the next Charles Woodson?

but i havent seen a thread about it so i dont know where to ask.
Gerry Hamilton said(per twitter) that you guys offered DE Aaron Lynch. thoughts? how high is he on you guys? GHamilton said that ND still leads, do they have a too big of lead to be overtaken?

ND has a very big lead
You just know Rosenberg/Snyder will misinterpret this headline and draw the wrong conclusion: "Rodriguez, finding a loophole, violates the spirit of Earth Day by offering unlimited showers to recruits."
