Michigan Moves up to #15 in the Coaches Poll, Down To #19 In AP Poll

Submitted by FauxMo on

PSU is now #2, of course. So next weekend will be a pretty marquee game.

The lines aren't out yet, but I am guessing PSU will be favored by something like 9 or 10. In my opinion, they should be favored by about 17. If O'Korn gets rattled during a day game at Indiana, he is going to curl up in the fetal position at PSU at night.

FYI, a viable passing offense is an important part of modern college football.

MOD EDIT - slight addition to catch all the poll discussion - LSA

Have you seen MSU?  They are not great.

Sure Michigan lost to Sparty.  That is what happens when you turn it over 5 times.  But here is the thing: Both Michigan and Michigan State looked bad in that game.

There is only one thing Michigan needs to think about:   Winning the next game.

Who controls 'destiny' is irrelevant.  Just keep playing elite D and improve on offense each week.  The rest will take care of itself.

All tiebreakers aside, we need Sparty to lose twice AND we need to win out in order to win the B1G East. I know where you’re coming from though: Our overall record > Sparty’s overall record, in that scenario and we win the head-to-head vs. OSU and PSU.

To get the game winning FG at home against unranked GaTech and they move up 3 spots? Polls are a joke. If by some miracle Michigan can win out these chintzy polls won't matter.

Have you watched them play? They are fast and put a hurtin’ on people. They looked better against Cincinnati they we did. And they humiliated Illinois despite their 30 penalties.

Chill guy, I didn't say they were a playoff team. I'm saying they've looked good as a group of five team and especially since Charlie did so poorly at Texas.

I just think they're overhyped. You're only as good as the competition you play. That's why I think we were overhyped early on and why MSU is overhyped during this stretch of their schedule. Same with USF. Play someone with a pulse and I'll buy in. Personally, don't see it.

So I assume if we lose next week we won't be ranked, if they dropped after a win and a bunch of higher ranked teams lost/struggled as well.

MSU is pissing me off. Obviously we need them to lose twice. But, maybe not. We would need to get in a three way tie if not for them losing twice. So, we could conceivably be ok as long as one of Penn St. or OSU beat Sparty. That obviously means we win out, which is an obvious given if we even stand a chance. But it also means that we can be that team’s only loss, which is obviously only one or the other since they play each other. In other words...if Sparty somehow beats one of OSU or psu, we need that team to also lose in the PSU/osu game. That is certainly possible.

Why is Khalid Hill on twitter mad about dropping to 19th in the AP poll. He should quit feeling sorry for himself & realize how the team has played the last two weeks.

According to the UM statistics archive, UM has beaten the #2 team on the road three times:

1963 at Illinois; we were unranked at the time en route to a 3-4-2 season

1996 at OSU; we were #21 and finished 8-4

2006 at ND; we were #11 and finished 11-2

(Caveat: the database doesn't list rankings prior to 1936)

so we could jump back up, but after going into overtime with Indiana, I can see why we dropped. our Defense deserves better, but if our Offense can't score then I can see where the polls would drop us. If our Offense can start making decent drives and scoring on a few, we win every game left on the schedule.

For us to upset psu on the road.  Defense gives us a chance and the offense at this point can only be a pleasant surprise.  If there's a time to open up the playbook or try things we haven't seen (since we haven't seen anything to date), it's now.  Much rather go in being the underdog and trying to beat the #2 in the country.  If that doesn't motivate the guys.

Honestly, I don't care about these polls. They don't matter until the end of the season, we just have to keep winning. We should wait at least until the CFP polls start coming out before we even remotely care.

But seriously? We move down two spots for winning? And Clemson barely moves?
