Yep, there's only one of me.

I'm glad someone else put up the link. And the OP was right. Michigan did well, but wow, was PSU awful. Not much of a tuneup is right, and not a whole lot you can tell from this last Saturday. (Other than how sad we all are for Jeremy Clark, and our secondary depth).

I am really looking forward to being in Ann Arbor at Michigan Stadium this coming Saturday. Should be the best game of the year so far.

While I prefer a Buckeye not make fun of our players, his line about Kalis was pure gold: He's like a Blackberry - just not an effective mobile option. Hahahahahaha...

My daughter did finally get to get a picture with Kyle after the game.  He remebered her name and asked about her health and gave her a hug. It was very nice and genuine. Emily said she thought "Gone Piggin" was funny.  He added he and Magnuson were going to start a Youtube channel. Oh boy.

There were a few plays in which he took #6 all of the way to the sideline with a block and another where he took a guy by the throat.  I asked him about the throat tackle.  I told him he seemed very agressive today. He smiled and raised his arm up to replicate the move and said "Yeah, I had something in me today."

There are just so many times he gets out in space and either there is nobody to block, wasn't quick enough to get to the spot before the LB vacated it, or wrong angle, etc.  Entertaining analogy nonetheless.

Idk how much of the OSU fanbase I represent here, but I feel pretty confident in saying PSU grades out a lot lower than UM all across the board in the "rival respect coefficient" scale

I remember several years ago standing in the concessions line at the Big House when a young M fan behind me struck up a conversation with a PSU fan.  The question that ended the conversation rather abruptly?  "So, who's your rival?  Have you guys picked one yet?"

The PSU fan was dumbfounded as every M fan turned and was obviously waiting for his response...and he just walked away.

I think PSU's best rival is Pitt. It's good that they're playing again, especially now that Pitt seems to be resurgent under Narduzzi.

Because honestly, PSU isn't going to develop a rivalry in the B1G other than maybe Maryland and/or Rutgers. PSU has always been an eastern team, and everybody in the B1G already is spoken for as far as rivalries. Maybe the rivalries with the newcomers will happen, if either PSU stays mediocre (hopefully) or if either Maryland or Rutgers becomes respectable (more likely Maryland).

I think the general consensus is that we despise OSU, but respect them all the same. Hard not to respect what Meyer has done. And he's done nothing since he's arrived at OSU to indicate he's going back to his slimeball ways from UF.

I don't despise Penn State's current players. Those kids are just trying to play football. Who I thoroughly despise and have no respect for are the former players, alums, admins, and students who continue to defend Paterno and say that he did nothing wrong. The man enabled a child rapist. What else is there to say?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a fanbase that has such a glaring lack of self-awareness or mismanaged priorities as the Penn State fanbase.

Don't get me wrong, I fucking hate Ohio State and would root against them if they played against bin Laden and the Cobra Kai Dojo but at least 25% of that hatred is because of how good they are.

When we beat Ohio State, I will feel elation and joy on vanquishing That University Right Down South and war whoop for days.  When we beat Penn State, I feel a hollow sense of revulsion that we had to share a football field with thm and have deigned to keep them in our conference even in spite of That Thing.  I'm sure there are a lot of great people associated with their football program, but at the end of the day how do you get past That Thing?

With an OSU fan the sensitive topics you might not want to talk about are the last 25 years of the rivalry.  With a Penn State fan, the sensitive topics you might not want to talk about are the whole enabling a serial child molester for two decades.  These things are not in the same ballpark, league, sport or planetary system.

Great line: "A draw play to Chris Evans ended up being wizardry against this defense. During the postgame handshake I was expecting Jim Harbaugh to pull a quarter out of James Franklin's ear."

The snark was strong today

Michigan had the honor of playing Penn State on Saturday and they took that honor and crammed it down the Nittany Lions' throats like the last bag of trash that you're trying to get to fit into your garbage can.

Kyle Kalis shouldn't be asked to pull or block in space. He's like a Blackberry — just not an effective mobile option. (ed: sad face)

If I had to do a Penn State Monday, I'd either quit or just write it throughout the week since it's the same old bucket of suck each week.

Throwing the ball behind the line of scrimmage against guys like Jourdan Lewis and Jabrill Peppers is just poor planning. Or it would be if there was any planning involved.

Penn State almost never tried to find a positive matchup. They just kept flailing, hoping that one of their petty slaps would scratch Michigan's cornea or something.

It doesn't mean much because what can you learn from a contest where only one participant is actually familiar with the game being played.

I thought it was a little harsh on their offensive game planning.  I think they found a matchup they liked (Barkley vs. a non-Peppers LB in the receiving game) and hit that for a good portion of their positive yards.  Problem was it was the only positive matchup to be found.  And if you ran Barkley into pass routes every play, you're giving up on other aspects of your offense.

I'm curious as to what he means by "this is a limited roster." We have NFL talent all over the field, in almost every position group. And we are pretty deep in most places.

but my guess is after we beat Wisconsin next week the author is going to go back to calling the Badgers a remarkably overrated team like he did in last weeks Michigan Monday.  I also find it interesting that he calls our limited roster.  Not sure if I agree with that synopsis and I can guarantee you Jim Harbaugh will hide from no one.

He addresses that in his last paragraph--Harbaugh gets the most of his players and our roster is limited. to illustrate, just imagine what our roster will look like in 2-3 years after a few more years of Harbaugh recruiting and on field success. Speight may be fine, but imagine is with Harbaugh recruited and fully trained QB's. Ditto linebacker, running back, etc. Our roster is great, and we can beat OSU (just like we can lose to Wisconsin, Indiana, or Iowa), but there is one notch higher for it to move.

It does mean that this game wasn't much of a tuneup for next week's game against Wisconsin. The Badgers will bring a much stiffer defense to town. Like Penn State, however, they will also bring an offense which is suited to being shut down by a team like the Wolverines.

I think what Tony said here is actually pretty spot on - if you watched the Wisconsin game, you watched a bigger but slower version of us in some series, and they do tend to feed into the strength of our defense. That gives me quite a bit of hope really.

Asked in the comment section, Gerdeman responded about what he meant:
"Basically I'm talking about the lack of depth. Outside receivers, LBs, DBs. Does Michigan have a 4th or 5th LB? Do they have a third outside receiver? Grant Perry and Eddie McDoom are inside guys mostly. Is Tyree Kinnel an acceptable replacement if the Wolverines lose a safety? Stuff like that. It may not have any effect this year as long as UM stays healthy. But I do wonder if they will wear down come November. There isn't much rotation in a few of those spots."

Excellet points, which I agree are a real concern. Except for Hawaii, Michigan starters have remained in the game way longer than I might have expected. Perhaps it's like the four hour practices- Harbaugh wants to make sure that the starters are mentally and physically prepared to play four full quarters of football.

As of now, things have worked out and project nicely for this team. But as the Clark injury shows, you just never know. I too, worry how much depth we will have for the back half of our schedule.
