A butt-end is with the, well, butt-end of a stick, a spear is with the blade.
To everyone saying "not spearing" the rule doesn't include any gray area. It sucks that he's gone, but the rule is black and white, the only room for interpretation is whether a match is warranted or not. In the NHL it's a major and a game or a match if any contact is made, as well.
A major plus game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who pokes or attempts to poke, whether or not contact is made, an opponent with the point of the blade of his stick.

I can't fully blame Miami, as the officiating has allowed the chippiness to get to a level completely out of control, but that is some bullshit by the Redhawks. CCHA should be embarrassed.

After the play some NTM defender lightly checked Guptil, who poked him back. Then, the NTM good squad started lighting shit up. Weber (#4 on jersey, #1 d-bag) went after him high. Chris Brown defended him and chaos ensued.

Agreed. That game was obviously going to get out of hand. I also like how the goalie got invovled in the fight and didn't get anything for it. No idea how we got an extra 2 on that. Not that it mattered, but the refs were really shitty.

SICK goal by Brown, and Treais and Moffie have really come on for us.
