Michigan Jersey Number Suggestions
I wanted to get some opinions from the MGoCommunity before making a very important decision. I'm about to buy a jersey for the upcoming season and I'm struggling with which number I should put on the jersey. I want a number that has historical importance, but also has relevance with regard to the present team. The number I'm leaning toward the most right now is 2, as it has obvious historical relevance, and as Justin Turner, who I am very, very high on, will be wearing that jersey, hopefully for the next four years. Obviously, though, I'm open to suggestions and would love to hear what some of you think.
can't go wrong with a 1 either, even though no one currently wears it.
I always liked Jason Avant and I have his 8 jersey.
And now it's a Nick Sheridan jersey, so clearly, that was a win-win.
/facepalm
I've always been partial to the Woodson jersey, but the #21 from Biakabutuka and Desmond Howard is pretty cool too.
And isn't Hemingway #21 now?
He's no Desmond or Touchdown Timmy, but he's still good in his own right.
He will play a lot this year and I think he'll be pretty good.
ya i know everyones doing it but its hart and shaw
2 is also a good choice as v. smith is wearing it on offense and i think will be explosive now or in the near future along with jt and woodson
41?
I can't be the only one that has one...
Tim Bracken?
Space Emperor.

I liked Bracken. I thought he had a nice running style. Unfortunately, he suffered a nasty leg fracture and then got lost in the shuffle.
#2 would be cool because of Turner and Smith (and Woodson), but everyone will just assume you bought it for McGuffie. Maybe that's not a big deal to you, yet if you're splurging for the authentic jersey, maybe you don't want that stigma.
I think I'm going with #6.
In a year's time, people will know the jersey for either Woodson or Turner. Or, Ohio State fans may unfortunately remind you it was Shawn Crable's number.
77 (lewan) is a good investment, i think. and of course if the current 77 doesn't pan out, you still have THAT previous 77 (long).
I don't think I've ever seen one of those. And with other previous 77s, don't forget Pape and Jansen.
Number 12, Georgia's Finest (feat. T-Clem)

Every time I pick up Febreze I think of ^^this^^
M-Den had all #2 jerseys on sale about a week ago. I'm not sure if they still do but that could be a factor in your decision.
When I see a guy in an M jersey, the first thing I think of is who wore that digit when that guy was in college. Like a No. 1 on a guy who's 30 would be David Terrell -- if he's in his late 40s I'd think of Carter, if he's in his 20s I'd think it was for Braylon.
You wouldn't think a current kid in No. 4 would remember Harbaugh, right?
I have a No. blue 7 jersey, bought (in 1998) because Henson was my year. I thought of buying a 2 then, but my elder frat brothers convinced me that since I "missed it" it wouldn't be as appropriate (and b/c like four of them -- including the fucking dog -- already had Woodson jerseys). My away is a 32 for A-Train, who was the tailback for the bulk of my college years.
Note: if any readers have a pic of a certain British Bulldog in a Woodson jersey, send to Misopogon [at] att [dot] net.
You could go with 7. It was Henne and I bet you that's what Gardner takes if he can get it from TRob (if he is even still here).
I still have my #1 jersey from my freshman year in 1990 (D. Alexander). I would seriously consider #6 tho - Ty Wheatley from days gone by and Donovan Warren now.
John Navarre and Denard Robinson
Leroy Hoard... historical
Cissoko... present
That number will always remind me of Clarence Williams. That dude drove me nuts. Every time he touched the ball I felt like a fumble was about to happen. Most of the time it did.

I have a #1. Obviously a classic but you really can't go wrong.

Going with #4 would be an excellent choice. Minor is going to have a big year and you've got Harbaugh from a historical perspective.
If you could get arms like Minor, the jersey would look even better on you. Talk to Barwis about that.

According to mgoblue Brandon Smith is supposed to be 4 this year also. He has the potential to be an impact player in the future.
JeRon Stokes also is #4, for now anyway.
Moved to six. I actually e-mailed the athletic office to see what happened. No response. My guess it was just a typo.

Im partial to the defense and Warren is currently representing, Burgess, but I think I would have to say Hobson had the most influence. Wheatley wasnt too shabby!

Just an FYI if you are able to make it to an M-Den location the Authentic #2 jerseys are only $100. The only Authentic they have at any location that is not $150. I just bought myself a #2 jersey this weekend! It is a great deal for a great number.
Does that include the #2 away jerseys as well? I have a '97 home Woodson one, but I'd love to pick up a new away one.

I actually bought the Away #2 jersey. At the State street location they only had one size left of the white #2 but the Main St. location seemed to have alot of them during the Art Fair so you could try that location.
I have a #30, from the House Cat, Jesse Johnson. Outstanding!

I bought an 86 after The New Math emerged...I wanted a 6 but it was Prescott Burgess at the time...but I've always loved the number six since watching Ty Wheatley tear up Warshington in that Rose Bowl...when I was like four.

Really, you can't go wrong with any number. Every number has some history behind it. This is a 130-year-old program we're talking about.
18.
Amani Toomer. It even has block M's on the shoulders.
I own 5 or 6: 100th anniv OSU - UM #2(I believe that was Whitley at the time), An A train #32, A T Rex # 16, a J Irons #37, and an old, old #12 that Ricky Powers wore.
I wore that jersey every time UM played during the 97 NC year. This was no small feat; I was in the army and deployed for some of the games. I had to wear the jersey under my T shirt and BDUs.
Man, I miss Nike.

So maybe he wasn't the greatest while at Michigan, and only a 6th round draft pick, but I'd say Tom Brady was still a "solid" QB at Michigan and has had an above average (understatement) career in the NFL. Let's not forget Nienburg also sported the #10!

The best. Let people guess, and think. There will never be one better. There will never be a substandard player in it. I always wanted one of these, but I had thought in recent years that that number would look funny on a modern, poly-blend, form-fitted jersey. But the more that game jerseys look like spacewear, the better (more incongruous) I think the idea might be. Especially with stitched letters. No name on it.
