Michigan Hockey: National Championship Game Open Thread

Submitted by MichFan1997 on

Starting us off early today. Shut the fuck up about math problems people. We're playing in a CHAMPIONSHIP game today. The only math I'm worried about is if the sum of Michigan's goal total is greater than the sum of Minnesota-Duluth's goal total.

The guys worked hard and had a great run in the tournament, but it sucks to lose because of a matchup problem created by multiple icings.  I know that is how hockey OT works, but it is still a bummer.  The guys were already gassed from killing 9(!) penalties, and they couldn't connect on the long outlet passes.

I'm usually not one for moral victories, but hats off to the boys for killing all of those penalties. We definitely wouldn't have seen OT if it wasn't for that. Good run fellas.

I hate to admit it but after the second or third icing in a row, I realized that we stood a very good chance of losing very immediately.  UMD had managed to get their number one line out on the ice, fresh and ready to go, and whatever line we had out there had been out there for a long while.

Honestly, I felt like they had out finessed us most of the game and they have better overall hockey athletes than us.  We managed to hang in there by playing hard-nosed fundamental defense and Hunwick played a hell of a game again.  Great season; disappointing end, but still a great season.
