Michigan Friendly places to watch the game

Submitted by LewanHatesDonkeys on August 5th, 2013 at 7:33 PM

With the season soon upon us, where is your favorite place to take in a game?  Especially for those of us that no longer live in the mitten.

For myself I think I just found my place to watch today actually.  Down in Mary Ester, FL there is a cigar  called Beach Castle Premium Cigars.  Its a shop owned by a native Detroiter and his wife.  When I walked in he had Michigan helmets displayed and was wearing Tigers apparel and seemed knowledgeable and not just blowing smoke about it.  And he has Big Ten Network!  So I am sure at least not the nationally televised games I can be found there.

Where do the rest of you like to be where ever you live?

EDIT: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&hq=&msa=0&msid=110754610550992265396.000475954f1d9445ac122&ll=45.58329,-74.882812&spn=117.013597,268.59375&z=2

I was just made aware of this map.  My post was a failure...

There are about 3 around union square alone, but I typically watch games at homes and invite any michigan friends over.  Otherwise, I'll go to Professor Thoms, but sometimes it just gets too crowded (depending on the game.)

I'm actually starting b-school so I probably can't afford to spend 4-5 bucks a beer for 3 hours.

If you haven't been to Duffy's in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, make sure to stop there on your next trip here. Football games (and even basketball to a certain degree) are absolutly nuts! It should be on all M fan's bucket lists!

Does anyone know a way to find out a place to watch the game if you're not in the area, specifically out of the country?  Other than the internet

as much as a good reminder. By clicking the "MGoBoard" tab in the top right section of the site you can find sticky's that:

  • Provide info on mod actions
  • Have a map of M friendly bars to watch games in
  • Are a marketplace for M tickets (every sport)
  • Show Brian's FAQ (a bit dated, but still)
  • Give instructions for embedding, blockquoting, ect.
  • Have a solution for listening to M games anywhere
  • Link to a Chrome extension designed for MGoBlog

Is it just me, or do all the bar locations in the google maps link point to the northern Canadian provinces?!  I'm talking Yukon and Northwest Territories.   I knew our alumni base was strong, but multiple bar options in Yellowknife and Whitehorse is completely beyond my wildest expectations.

It's not up-to-date.

In Chicago, Cans closed down and Jack's is now called The Diag.

So, I think your question isn't a complete fail.

Coolest places I've ever watched a Michigan game not in person (context helped):

Buffalo Billiards in DC (Dupont Circle) - there for our FF victory over Cuse

South in Beverly Hills - The Game, 2011 edition

to live in both Columbus and Lansing for work recently, so I'm afraid I cannot contribute much here. If I had to name a place in Lansing, I suppose I'd say the Dispatch. And I once wore a Michigan jersey to Little Palace in downtown Columbus and wasn't assaulted, so I guess that's as good as one can ask for.
