Michigan Baseball 2016 schedule announced

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The schedule has been announced for the 2015 B1G Tournament Champions. Michigan stunned EVERYONE last year by going on a run to win the B1G Tournament and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan has finished higher and higher as we further progress into the Erik Bakich era.

2013- T-5th
2014- T-4th
2015- T-3rd, B1G Tournament Champions, NCAA Regional Runner-Up
2016- ?

Schedule highlights-

  • Opening the season at Ray Fisher Stadium South: Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, which is the owned by Fred Wilpon who is the New York Mets owner.
  • Hooray! Michigan gets to play both MSU and OSU this year. Why is this news? Well, they haven't both been on our schedule as B1G conference series since....2011.
  • 4-game road trip to Hawaii
  • Return series to Oklahoma State

I don't know how these kids play baseball and keep up with school. Basically on the road for a month straight to start the season. The NCAA, of course, is OK with this but we can't have a bigger football playoff set up because the students from a few teams will miss to much class time.

One thing I find odd about the Hawaii trip ..... no doubleheaders and 4 days in between the UC-Davis game and the start of the Hawaii series.  That's REALLY maximizing the number of days in Hawaii.  I can't imagine Michigan would travel California to Michigan and back to Hawaii.

Hawaii pays a large percentage of travel costs for their conference mates (Mountain West in football, Big West in Olympic Sports) to visit the islands for games.  I wonder if it's the same thing for OOC games?

Yes, he translated the Hawaii time the wrong way.  Also, the time change takes place that weekend further confusing things...

Thursday, March 10:  6:30 pm HST = 11:30 pm EST

Friday, March 11:  6:30 pm HST = 11:30 pm EST

Saturday, March 12:  1:00 pm HST = 6:00 pm EST

Sunday, March 13:  4:00 pm HST = 10:00 pm EDT (Hawaii does not use daylight time, Michigan goes onto daylight time the morning of March 13).

When I was a senior in high school my future college teammates got to go play in Hawaii and our #1 pitcher blew all of his meal money/per diem on a prostitute the first day and had very little to eat (bumming food off others) the rest of the trip. We never got to go back to Hawaii in my 5 years and I was promised it "annually" before signing my LOI.

Cool story bro.

No but I do know that spring sports usually travel somewhere nice and play games as a spring break treat.

Last year WLAX was on the West coast, Softball is always on the West coast or FL until April and MLAX was at Jacksonville last year.

I saw some of the Maize-Blue game last Saturday.  So many new faces on this team.  Carmen Benedetti has a legitimate shot at B1G player of the year.  Hopefully an Adcock-Nutof-Hill starting rotation can continue the momentum from the end of last season.  It's too bad Ogden didn't come back for a 5th year because he was arguably the second best pitcher at the end of last season.
