Michigan bar in [Insert Location]?

Submitted by DCAlum on

I know, I know - there is a bar locator thingy and an alumni association search thingy and all sorts of other thingies that I could use to answer this question. But I looked at all of the thingies and I still couldn't find the answer, so I'm looking to the board to save me.

Anybody know about Boise, ID? Is there a Michigan bar? Is there an alumni association? Where are my Michigan peeps?

MOD EDIT - Haven't seen one of these it a while, so we'll preserve the OP's original question and throw it open to general inquiries of this ilk. - LSA

You'll see Michigan gear all over Boise, but there doesn't seem to be any strong coordination among alumni and/or supporters.  Harry's Hyde Park Pub is a Big10 gathering spot but is strong with Badgers and Spartys over the last few years.  Stay away from Beef O'Brady's in Meridian (OSU).

There is a FB group along the lines of UofM Alumni Boise, but it's sparse.  We're out there/here...

I don't know of any specifically Michigan bars, but there are lots of good bars to watch the game. The couple block area southwest of the Capitol building (around 8th st. & Idaho st.) has a nice concentration of bars and restaurants; I'm sure you'd be able to find the game on there somewhere.

The ram restaurant/bar just east of the stadium has a good amount of TVs and a big menu, but avoid it and that area around game time for Boise State.

It doesn't really have any TVs, but Highland Hollow is a hole-in-the-wall brewery with good beer and good fries.

Michigan bar locator map says Legends sports bar.

Also, UM Alumni club website says there is a Madison spirit group (not quite a full-fledged alumni club). Hawaii watch party was at some place called Lucky's, UCF was at Legends. So they must move around.

Paging WichitanWolverine. WichitanWolverine, please pick up the nearest courtesy phone.

FYI, there is also a bar locator. There is nothing listed in Wichita, but could be useful for other cities if you're traveling. Also, add the bar for Wichita when you figure it out. One of those bars down in Old Town should be showing the game, although not sure if any are particularly Michigan-friendly.

I'll be in Florence, Italy during our homecoming game against Illinois. The googles don't turn up anything helpful in the way of a sports bar which would show NCAA football (only the footie kind of football, some rugby, NFL on Sundays...).

Also, there does not appear to be an Italy listing for international alumni club chapters.

Anyone have ideas?

Otherwise, is the advice in this thread (below) still valid? i.e., JustinTV/firstrow/vipbox, slingbox (which I don't have), DNS proxy/VPN - assuming it's on ABC/ESPN. If it's on BTN, no issues as they don't restrict content geographically (woo, BTN!)

is the Michigan alumni club finder

http://alumni.umich.edu/clubs-and-groups/club-finder/

This led me to the Phoenix club facebook page, which shows that their watch parties are at Bevvy in Scottsdale

You need not be an alum or member of the alumni association to attend.

Game watch locations, Michigan-friendly bars, etc. change regularly and aren't always known online. Sometimes the Alumni spot is in a bad location or moved and wasn't updated. Not sure why people get so bent out of shape about these threads. The current sticky is next to impossible to navigate. I get not wanting to have 15 of these every week, but I think one for the week is tolerable.

in Guadalajara area. Looks like my winter trip might be earlier than normal due to ongoing health issues. Nothing major, however the combination of all the itises makes it extremely difficult to take care of my home, yard, etc. Pushing a mower takes it out of me. They do have a Canadian satellite company in my small village, but since the only sports bar in town closed down I am a bit concerned.

This was not an issue before because I left with only the bowl game left on the schedule. Got lucky last year and espn broadcast two games and fortunately Michigan was chosen for the English speaking channel. If anyone else does Mexico during the winter, please advise.  Thanks.

Strangely, I will be in Milwaukee the weekend our Wolverines host the Wisconsin Badgers in Ann Arbor.  My buddies and I ('97 and '98 grads) need a good place to watch the game and get a bid rowdy.  We get pretty animated about Michigan Football.

I checked the alumni website. Two bars are listed. However, the Yelp reviews for G-Daddy's and Oakcrest Tavern seem to be hit or miss.

Can any Milwaukee locals share suggestions?

Thanks!
