Unreal. Nfl guys all over the staff, from top to bottom. Nfl playing experience, or nfl coaching experience, our staff has it all. I never dreamed of a staff so awesome. Get ready to start kicking ass

levels of football (HS, youth, college underclassmen), when you reach the upper level of football you are in fact coaching. Upper classmen are coaching the younger guys, NFL veterans/starters are helping and coaching rookies and newcomers. They watch unimagineable amounts of film, turn in scouting reports on the payers (not just teams) they will be seeing on the field and tendencies, etc. He may not have the teaching/ item analysis, which is why he is a GA, but he certainly has the insight and experience to coach the OL position.

Where did I ever say he wasn't qualified, properly insightful, inexperienced, etc.? I think this is a great hire, and a clear picture of where Harbaugh wants this program to go. He had a cup of coffee in the NFL, but he's also a former team captain at Northwestern, which seems to be the model of academic/athletic balance Harbaugh favors. That's huge.

Hold on.  Can't let that go unchecked.

Prety much every coach on every staff?

Hoke

Funk

F. Jackson

Borges

Hecklinski

AKA the HC and the entire offiensive staff, unless I'm forgetting someone. Did any of them ever coach or play in the league in any capacity whatsoever?   Please correct me if I'm way off here, but I don't believe that they did at all.   I see Heck played in the arena league for a tiny bit...

Any coaching or playing experience in the league makes someone an nfl guy. Getting to the nfl is no joke. There are roughly 7,000 college football players, only about 300 will make a roster. People with nfl experience that have a good head on their shoulders, are extremely valuable assets. This staff is a dream team.

wouldn't need to be a graduate assistant.  Makes sense that a player who's experienced the NFL (in whatever capacity), who's smart enough to have graduated from Northwestern and one could guess smart enough to decide to turn to coaching, starts out as a graduate assistant under some very experienced and successful coaches while getting an advanced degree at another high-quality university.

Anyway, nice to have a smart former lineman help out on the line, and get on that coaching tree.

As a comparison, go look at all the people listed under "coaches" on Stanford's site. Besides the actual staff, I counted 23 support staff, and that's not including admin assistants and a few other positions. I counted 13 for MSU and I think around 16 for Alabama. Michigan has just been behind on this for a long time.

I was wondering that too. MGOBLUE lists 12, counting Tolbert the S&C guy. Gwen Bush and two other guys were added in the past few days, now Al Netter, so my best guess is 16 staff members (?). I'm guessing there will probably be a few more too.

Hoke was great at recruiting. Makes me wonder if part of the problem was the coaches had to devote too much time to recruiting, and not enough time to prepping/coaching, to keep up with the larger recruiting staffs at other schools. And if indeed this was part of the problem, was that an AD resources thing, or a Hoke-preference thing? I mean, I didn't realize you were allowed to have such a large staff until we went out and hired all these folks, without realy losing anyone who'd already been here. Hard to believe we weren't on an even playing field in terms off staff size (ignoring quality), given the AD's resources.

The staff that Harbaugh has assembled is impressive even compared a lot of NFL coaching staffs.  HS kids with NFL aspirations should be lining up to play for Harbaugh.  Not only will they receive geat coaching and a world class education, they will get connections to the NFL.

Shit, let's get Mack Brown on the staff to recruit Texas. Lind if a joke here but hey Mack is available for a job.

I feel like this point in his career he might be open to a fun different position.
