I'm not saying those are exactly equal, but you've definitely seen Michigan (and likely many other good teams if you watch much football) sneak by mediocre teams at times.  It happens and shouldn't be a huge factor.  Actually losing is a big deal, but finding a way to win every week is a characteristic of a good team.

But it's not a completely different team.  It's mostly the same team.  And sure, UGA hasn't beaten anyone very good yet this year, but they've crushed everyone they've played and looked good doing it.  They're barely ahead of us, but it's certainly a fair argument that they're the second best 1-loss team right now, behind the team that just beat them.

OK, fine.  As if being ranked #6 vs #9 is that huge of a difference anyway.  A week ago, anyone on this blog arguing that Michigan is better than Georgia would have been torn apart.  One game later and the only reason UGA is ranked ahead of us is SEC bias.

Come on, guys.

Actually that's the coaches' poll.  In any event I think that's a fair ranking and we are well positioned to get into the CFP if we win out and take the B1G.

The only scenario is if LSU beats Alabama and goes on to the SECCG. There's no way Alabama gets left out given their decade of dominance and how they've steamrolled the rest of the their scenario because everyone believes they are the best team. In that case, you have a one loss LSU/Georgia as SEC champ and the SEC gets two teams. Then Clemson and ND and you have a problem. Not a likely scenario, but it's the most obvious problem I see.

I know some people wouldn't agree with picking a non-conference champ Alabama over a BIG champ but that would happen, for better or worse.

I’m very confident that Alabama would be left out in that scenario. Their best win would be ... Auburn, who’s now unranked or Miss St or aTm, both lower rung teams. UM would be coming off a win at presumably #2 OSU, and wins over 3-4 other top 25 teams, plus a conf championship. Despite Alabama’s recent success, there’s really no case for them to get in under that scenario unless the panel totally disregards record for eye test.

Easy to forget, but Alabama would have been left out last year if Wisconsin had won the Big 10 championship game.

LSU still has to play Bama (a likely 2nd loss). UGA would need to play Bama in Conference Championship  game.  Another likely loss.

It would be interesting if UGA wins out and Bama has one loss in Conference Chamionship game (to UGA)....but I don't see that happening.  A one loss Michigan team (on a 12 game winning streak) likely gets in.  Still a looong way to go.

They won't put bama in if they are a 1 loss non- SEC champion. That's basically what they did last year as the 2nd SEC team. To do so twice in a row, with only 4 spots would cause about 4 power-5 conferences to collectively lose their CT@*%$ at the obvious SEC bias.

Do I believe Alabama deserves to be in their as of right now. Yep. Me and everyone else. Same with Clemson. But conference championships have to be viewed as a mostly first round of the playoffs. If you want a chance at the playoffs without winning your conference, you better have an extremely good reason (such as a 12-0 ND or a last second close loss away to a top team, not just a "top team at the time who ended up loosing to Tennessee and some other random teams").

SEE: Bama wins out, loses to GA in conference championship.

1 loss GA and 1 loss Bama are in.

That would leave Clemson, ND and Big Ten Champ looking at last 2 spots.

If OSU is champ (undefeated) they are in over weak schedule Clemson.

If Michigan wins out, we maybe out of picture because of Notre Dame loss.

The Big Ten needs Bama to win out as all remaining SEC will have 2 losses then.

You don't think Alabama, Georgia and LSU have any hard games left?  LSU and Alabama play each other and Georgia will play that winner IF they win out.  The only way two SEC teams make it in is if Bama wins out and a one loss UGA beats them in the SEC champ game.  Unlikely IMO.
