Coaches, Not AP

DOH! Can't edit. Mods - please delete and let's get one good thread started for polls. Sorry, folks.
EDIT: Thanks LSA!

AP isn't out yet.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:17 PM ^
Not bad, I'll take # 7 right now but # 1 in the ranking? I'm looking at you, Go Blue!!!
October 14th, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
Ohio State moves up after struggling to beat a terrible opponent multiple weeks in a row.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
Coaches watched 4 top teams fall. Probably let OSU off lightly. They really failed to rock said boat.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:38 PM ^
Exactly. Sure, OSU struggled to beat a bad team, same with ND. But they still won. Just like we did against NW. As opposed to WVU who played a bad team and got creamed.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
Except NW will easily defeat MN who will likely beat Indiana. All wins aren’t created equally.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
I'm not saying those are exactly equal, but you've definitely seen Michigan (and likely many other good teams if you watch much football) sneak by mediocre teams at times. It happens and shouldn't be a huge factor. Actually losing is a big deal, but finding a way to win every week is a characteristic of a good team.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Notre Dame has to travel to weird Ryan Field in early November. I'm not saying Northwestern will win, but I don't think it's impossible either. Strange things happen in Evanston.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
You mean the same NW, that got lucky against a winless Nebraska?
October 14th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
Nebraska has played pretty much everyone close except us.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Texas getting that Buckfutt love too.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
Buttfuck love is the best love..

So, Georgia barely drops and LSU moves right next to them. Got it. #SEClogic
October 14th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Georgia barely dropped because they lost to a very good team, it's their first loss of the season and they're still 10 months removed from playing for a national championship. I think that's fair.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
LSU is a solid team, so I don't disagree with that. Georgia hasn't beat a ranked team yet this year. Carryover feelings from last year should not be taken into account. Completely different team.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
But it's not a completely different team. It's mostly the same team. And sure, UGA hasn't beaten anyone very good yet this year, but they've crushed everyone they've played and looked good doing it. They're barely ahead of us, but it's certainly a fair argument that they're the second best 1-loss team right now, behind the team that just beat them.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
They lost their two RBs and LB stars and a slew of other players. Not saying they shouldn't be high, but #9 or #10 would be more appropriate.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
OK, fine. As if being ranked #6 vs #9 is that huge of a difference anyway. A week ago, anyone on this blog arguing that Michigan is better than Georgia would have been torn apart. One game later and the only reason UGA is ranked ahead of us is SEC bias.
Come on, guys.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
They gave up 275 yards rushing against offensively challenged LSU.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:02 PM ^
Beware of the talking heads touting LSU with three "Top 10 wins" instead of "LSU has beaten Georgia (great win) and now unranked Auburn and Miami".
October 14th, 2018 at 1:47 PM ^
They didn't just lose but were demolished. They should have dropped lower than Michigan whose only loss was by one touchdown to undefeated #4 Notre Dame in the first week.
It's SEC bias.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
Georgia got beat bad. They deserved to be dropped to 9-11.
However, SEC.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
They didn't just lose, they got crushed
October 14th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Actually that's the coaches' poll. In any event I think that's a fair ranking and we are well positioned to get into the CFP if we win out and take the B1G.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
Not that it really matters at this point, but you could make an argument for Michigan being the highest ranked 1 loss team. Their only loss being to ND on the road who is ranked #4. Just saying.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
NDs hardest game remaining is, I suppose, @Northwestern. So who do we pull for? NW beating ND opens a door for Michigan, on the other hand NW doing what Michigan couldn't.....
October 14th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
You think Northwestern is harder than @USC? I think Florida St is harder than NW, though FSU has looked kinda bad this year.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Regardless, question still stands.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Are we though? Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and one of Georgia/LSU. None of those teams have any hard games left on their schedule and all are ranked above us. The only really decent team we have left to get a win against is OSU. I can totally see winning out and getting left out of the playoff.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
I think there's almost no chance a one loss big ten champion misses out over a non conference champ and if it happens Delaney should immediately be fired
October 14th, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
He should fired today for <insert litany of terribleness>
October 14th, 2018 at 2:15 PM ^
Rutger, shitty refs, being a bad human
October 14th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
The only scenario is if LSU beats Alabama and goes on to the SECCG. There's no way Alabama gets left out given their decade of dominance and how they've steamrolled the rest of the their scenario because everyone believes they are the best team. In that case, you have a one loss LSU/Georgia as SEC champ and the SEC gets two teams. Then Clemson and ND and you have a problem. Not a likely scenario, but it's the most obvious problem I see.
I know some people wouldn't agree with picking a non-conference champ Alabama over a BIG champ but that would happen, for better or worse.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
I’m very confident that Alabama would be left out in that scenario. Their best win would be ... Auburn, who’s now unranked or Miss St or aTm, both lower rung teams. UM would be coming off a win at presumably #2 OSU, and wins over 3-4 other top 25 teams, plus a conf championship. Despite Alabama’s recent success, there’s really no case for them to get in under that scenario unless the panel totally disregards record for eye test.
Easy to forget, but Alabama would have been left out last year if Wisconsin had won the Big 10 championship game.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:36 PM ^
LSU still has to play Bama (a likely 2nd loss). UGA would need to play Bama in Conference Championship game. Another likely loss.
It would be interesting if UGA wins out and Bama has one loss in Conference Chamionship game (to UGA)....but I don't see that happening. A one loss Michigan team (on a 12 game winning streak) likely gets in. Still a looong way to go.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:38 PM ^
MSU and PSU would be decent wins, nationally. As a program they would be good wins.
Beating an unbeaten OSU would surely put us in barring no major chaos which come in collehe football.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
SEC still has a championship game that someone has to lose.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
Bama's gonna eviscerate and LSU and Georgia. Bama, Clemson, ND, Michigan. Problem solved.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
You honestly see Michigan winning out and being left out of the playoff? Really!?!? The Bama/Georgia/LSU triangle should take care of itself.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
The only way you're not right is if Bama is the one-loss non champion. Then they would put Bama in. Hate it, but I think that's what they would do.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
They won't put bama in if they are a 1 loss non- SEC champion. That's basically what they did last year as the 2nd SEC team. To do so twice in a row, with only 4 spots would cause about 4 power-5 conferences to collectively lose their CT@*%$ at the obvious SEC bias.
Do I believe Alabama deserves to be in their as of right now. Yep. Me and everyone else. Same with Clemson. But conference championships have to be viewed as a mostly first round of the playoffs. If you want a chance at the playoffs without winning your conference, you better have an extremely good reason (such as a 12-0 ND or a last second close loss away to a top team, not just a "top team at the time who ended up loosing to Tennessee and some other random teams").
October 14th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
This is possible, of course, but this Bama team appears to be 2001 Miami good. I think they'll run the table without too much stress.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
SEE: Bama wins out, loses to GA in conference championship.
1 loss GA and 1 loss Bama are in.
That would leave Clemson, ND and Big Ten Champ looking at last 2 spots.
If OSU is champ (undefeated) they are in over weak schedule Clemson.
If Michigan wins out, we maybe out of picture because of Notre Dame loss.
The Big Ten needs Bama to win out as all remaining SEC will have 2 losses then.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
You don't think Alabama, Georgia and LSU have any hard games left? LSU and Alabama play each other and Georgia will play that winner IF they win out. The only way two SEC teams make it in is if Bama wins out and a one loss UGA beats them in the SEC champ game. Unlikely IMO.
October 14th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
SEC could also get 2 teams in if LSU beats Bama. Then Bama and the SEC title game winner could finish with one loss. Bama has gotten into the playoff and the BCS without reaching its conference title game and surely would again.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
They have before because there weren't 4 other teams with better resumes. A one loss non-SEC champ Bama would be a tough sell against a 12-1 M team on a 12 game winning streak. I'd be very surprised if Bama is ahead of us.
October 14th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
Just look at last year, had Wisconsin won the Big Ten championship game, Alabama would have been left out.
