Rooting Interests:

Michigan.  We haven't won a conf championship, so LSU's better SOS (Sagarin, ESPN, etc) makes sense...for now.

Some Big Game Rooting might include:

LSU over Bama.  Loser is out if Michigan wins B1G.

ND over NW.  This assumes SOS is bolstered by an undefeated ND. Willing to be wrong.

Some sneaky games that matter:

Western over Ohio.  WMU (6-3) as MAC Champ props up our SOS a bit.

SMU over #17 Houston: SOS applies.  Also more B1G teams being ranked is good.  We can root, right?

Iowa over everyone from here on out.  We need to add a defeat of a top-10 team in B1G Championship.  A 10-2 Iowa fits the bill better than any other potential opponent.

Agree with LSU over Alabama.  I don't know why people think an 11-1 Bama with no quality wins on the road (ZERO road wins over teams with a winning record!) would get in over a 12-1 B1G champ from a tough division that played a very tough schedule.

There's just zero chance that would happen.

OTOH, I think we want Northwestern to beat ND.  I think we'd jump Notre Dame in that scenario.  They've looked iffy at times (Pitt) and we'd have beaten the team they lost to.  We'd have much better metrics than ND across the board.  I think that'd be enough for them to overlook a one score loss to them at their place.  Could be wrong about that but I can't imagine they'd keep ND at #4 if they lose and if they do drop ND, I can't imagine they'd drop M to keep M behind ND if M beats PSU.

Our SoS shouldn't be affected one way or the other no matter who wins that game because we've played both teams. The question would be whether the committee jumps us over ND, and since they weren't impressed enough with NDs undefeated record to put them ahead of LSU, they must not like what they're seeing from ND (i.e. not passing the "eye test").

The only reason LSU is #3 is for marketing purposes. After Alabama reminds them this weekend that offense is part of the game too, they'll be irrelevant.

From Reddit CFB:

During the initial #CFBPlayoff Committee Poll release after week 9, the teams that eventually qualified for the CFP have been ranked:

• #1: 3x

• #2: 3x

• #3: Never

• #4: 2x

• #5: 3x

• #6: 2x

Once: #7, #15, #16

I’d say we’re in a pretty good spot! Also I’d say #3 checks out this year given Bama are 14 point favorites over LSU.

Gentlemen, I understand many of you have spawned off, busting a nut and landing a single spermatazoa in an ovum.  Zygotes notwithstanding, please stop.  There is a planet at stake, and the fruits of your loins are inconsequential, if you are no longer reading books, or participating.  Please participate, you fucking fucks.

Nothing but a cheap and dumb 1/2 hour of programming on ESPN.  Does this really matter?  Win out, including the 2 remaining "settling family business" games, then the championship game and then we can watch with eager anticipation.

If Michigan wins, LSU loses and ND loses

The CFP poll would be:

1.) Alabama

2.) Clemson

3.) Michigan

4.) Georgia

5.) Oklahoma

6.) LSU

7.) ND
