That's probably about right, IMO.  After dispatching Notre Dame we really should be 7-0 before the MSU game, though @PSU will be a tough one.

Edit:  Does anyone notice that ESPN now goes back and changes the old opponent rankings to the new rankings in the schedule now?  I believe that's new.  Notre Dame was #14 when we played them, but now it retroactively says #21.

Edit 2: It's really good to see Ohio State dropping despite winning, because the quality of their opponents has been terrible.

Certainly a good approach at this point in the season, when rankings are still a fantasy. But after, say, five weeks I'd switch to keeping the then-current rankings. For example, playing Michigan last year before Denard's elbow went kablooey and after that are two completely different kettles of fish. Another example is 2007 Oregon before and after Dixon went out for the season. Before was a national championship-caliber team, after was a disaster.

Seems about right. With the exception of Georgia I can't see a single team above Michigan that probably doesn't have a good claim to be there this early in the season.

Florida in the top 20 right now is a joke. In fact three SEC teams at 1-1 ranked so high is a joke.

EDIT: and Drew Sharp places us at 21.

TIING!!!

I told my bank that they should loan me a bunch of money because my rich CEO and I work for the same powerful company.  They said "OK, if that kind of logic is good enough for the SEC, it's good enough for us."

No, wait.  They told me to fuck off.

The vote distribution is as follows:

3rd place - 1

9th place - 6

10th place - 12

11th place - 15

12th place - 10

13th place - 9

14th place - 3

15th place - 2

16th place - 1

21st - Drew Sharp

The average ranking was 11.47 and the median was indeed 11th.

I mean if the AP wants to maintain any sense of credibility, you'd think they'd maintain some level of quality control. Having one writer, a writer who has historically carried a negative bias against Michigan, casting a vote so far outside of the consensus just taints the integrity of the poll.

That's about where I figured, maybe a space or two lower. I figured 12-13 was our ceiling for beating ND.

It'll be tough to move up the next two weeks with playing Akron and UConn, unless there are some major upsets somewhere. Or unless Saban just absolutely pummels A&M next week and pushes them out of the top 10. But its not unreasonable to think we can be inside the top 10 for the start of conference play.

Anyway, assuming we can get by Penn State, which is no guarantee, there's no reason for us to not be undefeated heading into November.

1. Notre Dame falling 7 spots seems extreme.
2. Wisky gets no love for shutting out two teams in a row? I know the teams are awful, but a shutout of any kind is impressive.
3. It makes me very, very, very happy that Ohio keeps sliding down the polls and that we jumped SCAR.
4. GO BLUE!!

(LINK) - Michigan is 12th in the last run, and the only other Big Ten teams in the top 20 are Ohio State and Wisconsin. Nebraska rings in at 29th and Northwestern comes in at 35th. Purdue pretty much rounds out the Big Ten at 101st.

Seems fair.  As long as we keep it together the next part of the schedule is nice.  Plenty of time for the interior of the line to come together and Fitz to become less ginger.

Also State is at #27, reaping of the benefit of people never watching them play and just seeing the final score on their news feed.
