Michigan's Darryl Stonum gets 2 years' probation in DUI case

Submitted by Michigan248 on

No word on what will happen at his June 23rd court date for driving on a suspended licence.

Intresting remarks from his attorney though "Stonum simply was moving his car from one spot to another to avoid a parking ticket ""' "dd".

Thoughts?

I mean, it's certainly possible that what his attorney said is accurate, though I have a hard time believing that he couldn't get someone to move it for him. Also, why did it suddenly need to be moved? Hasn't he had a suspended license for quite a long time now?
Honestly, I feel for him, this (driving on a suspended license) is a victimless crime and just really terrible luck if he was simply moving it up the street or something. Poor decision-making.

A better question: does this ticket automatically violate his probation, or is that probation specific to alcohol-related incidents?

been around ann arbor in a year or two, but i remember an abundance of parking in the summertime. are we to believe he moved his car .0125 miles and got pulled over in the process?

was just "moving his car to avoid a parking ticket"

no excuse.

Stonum has to go. I like him as a player, but we are better than that at Michigan.

Keep the kid on the team, keep him on scholly, let him finish his schooling, dont play him another down.

Leet's not sound like thoes guys to the south...."it wasn't that bad", "it wasn't his fault", "it's just a suspended licence".

His licence was under suspension......there is no excuse and we all know how bad telling lies about such activity or covering it up can be.....worse than the actual offence. Darryl may have some issues here!!! Sure somebody could have moved the car if this was the case. I wish him well on his probation but I suspect he may have a tough go of it. Let's not make excuses.

There really is a new scheme of discpline in place for the players. A lot of work-related and team-related consequences for effing about like that. Stonum was great on kick returns. It's a bad loss for Michigan.

Parking ticket enforcement starts at 8am in Ann Arbor. So are we to believe Stonum waited until an hour after enforcement began? And then, in the process of moving his car less than a mile, managed to get pulled over?

Is he just an incredibly reckless driver (did he do a donut pulling his car into traffic)? How do you get noticed by a cop, assuming his attorney's story is correct, in such a short time?

I call BS. Unfortunately for all involved, Stonum has to be off the team. How can you get pulled over by the cops, when you shouldn't even be in the car in the first place, the day before your court date for a DWI? He shows a serious continued lack of judgement.

Stonum is great reciver and I would hate to see him go but since he seems to continue getting himself into legal trouble maybe its time to show him you only get so many chances.
