MGOTRIVIA: Last (failed) Game Winning Drive

Submitted by umich1 on

The UTL game got me thinking; when were the last 3 opportunities (in Michigan Stadium) when Michigan had the last drive of the game, trailing by 7 or less, and failed to score?

Seems like the ghosts of Yost, Canham, and Schembechler like to make their presence felt when Michigan finds itself in this scenario...

seems like the last few years we've either been winning ugly or losing comfortably.  I am remembering several, but they're all been away games I think.

My brain had officially blocked out the horror and Toledo.  Damn field goals.

How much time did we have against tOSU in 2005?  I remember Troy Smith driving the field for the last second score.

Anyways, fun to think about.  I'd imagine if you ignore the RR years then 3 would go back pretty far.

UMich1 - thanks for the horrible mental images

Here you go -

Think of your grandparents having sex.....

Think of a pit-bull fighting a kitten....

Think of Oprah's vagina

There, how did you like it?

And you know what - we're not even yet.   You still put worse images in my head

The point of the thread was actually more of a positive - it seems to me when given the opportunity in Michigan stadium, Michigan will score on the final game-winning drive more often then not.  Of course, we all remember all of the iconic victories; but somehow I self-treated and all of the miserable failures were forgotten.

Just wanted to accurately portray in my head the ration of winning GWD/possible GWD.

Technically, NW and Toledo were not the last drive as M turned it over on downs against NW with 1:18 to go and missed a FG against Toledo with :04 to go.  But UTL was also not technically the last drive as ND had :02 to come back.  Against Purdue the clock expired with us on our own 32.

If you truly want M driving as time expires, replace NW and Toledo with Utah 25-23 2008 and THE HORROR.
