MGoBlue.com - "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page"

Submitted by Stephen Y on
I'm using Firefox, and MGoBlue's stupid multimedia page takes forever to download because Firefox always tells me "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." I have the newest versions of Flash and Windows Media Player. I have tried every plugin I can think of to no avail. Does anyone know which plugins I need to download?

The web developers are apparently stuck in 2001 and trying to use ActiveX controls, which are a huge security risk and only work with Internet Explorer. I was hoping they'd use the summer to get the site updated to something platform independent (so they wouldn't need separate links for Macs when trying to stream hockey games), but it looks like we'll have to wait another year at least.

I have a MAC and it actually didn't work all last season using firefox. It's working now and I think it might have something to do with an extension I picked up or updating firefox itself. Not sure what the deal is.

First, Safari had some gaping security hole when I bought my Macbook Pro. Second, I just like Firefox better (and Camino, which is a Mac offshoot of Firefox). It's also easier to move things (bookmarks, whatever) between my Macbook Pro and various Windows machines I use.

Also not OP, but I'll answer, too: I switched to Mac a couple years ago after a decade on Windows, and I tried Safari when i switched; however, I kept using Firefox because I was so comfortable with it after several years of using it on my Windows computers. Safari isn't bad (it's certainly not IE!), and I do pull it up every once in a while -- sometimes as a fresh browser if my friends want to use my computer -- but FF is still my browser of choice.

I agree that I'm simply used to Firefox and all the shortcuts. It's a just about seamless transition from one OS to the next. I have to say that the most recent builds of Safari are noticeably faster than FF, and I'm thinking about just getting used to it and making Safari my default browser in Mac. At one time I was an Opera fan, but it sucks recently in Linux, so I've abandoned it.

I've had it work in the v3.5 Firefox, which completely surprised me. In previous versions of firefox, it was always that same plug-in problem. I highly doubt the women's soccer team used a different type of video since it was in the multimedia player of mgoblue.com.

I use Firefox on a Mac, and the 3.5 update was HUGE. It solved pretty much every problem I was having, including the strange problem of not having visible scroll bars. The biggest problem I had was the uncooperative upload page for my online photo store, and all the problems disappeared when I upgraded to 3.5; other problem sites are also miraculously fully functional now. It made me want to throw a party for the Firefox people.

Nothing ever works in Firefox for me either but I've had some luck clicking on the Links For Mac Users under the Multimedia tab even though I don't have a Mac.

Even if you do manage to get it working, the video quality sucks so much damned balls you'll be lucky to get more than three consecutive frames at a time.
