MGoBlog Shoutout on Dallas Radio

Submitted by ML88 on

I live in Dallas and was driving to work this morning listening to sports radio. There was a short segment that focused on college athletics and how there has been a visible shift from fans wanting to get their information from traditional media outlets towards blogs and websites that are dedicated only to their school.

They then speficically mentioned MGoBlog, saying this was a great example of a specialized website that focuses on Michigan athletics, and generates about 8 million (!) pageviews per month. They also said that the website is good about holding people accountable and not just giving fans exactly what they want to hear. I thought it was great to get a Michigan shoutout all the way down in Texas.

Go Blue!

p.s. - first time starting a new thread. I have no idea about formatting or any of that business that seems to trip people up when they write posts. Apologies in advance if there is an issue, or if this has already been covered and i missed it.

Does that include the number of times we all hit F5 during the day and throughout a recruit commit watch?  If so, that number may be a little misleading...but still, great promotion there.

^This.

We're more like 6 million in the offseason. When there isn't a coaching change it comes up in August for preseason and then dips every loss, with occasional blips for major recruiting news. Coaching searches are a madhouse. Bad seasons really cut into our numbers.

As they specifically mentioned page views, not unique pageviews or visitors, I can certainly see 8m being the case.  Think about all the times you personally go to a different page on the site every day...then think about what that means for you over the course of a month...then times that by all the other hardcore MGoBloggers...then add in the semi-regulars...then add in the lurkers.  In other words, without actually seeing the site analytics for myself, I'm not too surprised, but page views without context are just one statistic that don't give much of a story about the flow of traffic through the site.

Everytime I laugh/chuckle to myself my wife asks, 'Are you reading something funny on MGoBlog again?' She knows what's up.

- Also, my brother used to have a subscription to Rivals and I got him to switch over. He didn't see the point in paying for information we get for free on the blog. Granted, we don't get it 'as fast', but it's still the same info.

csb:   Last time I was in Dallas my g/f at the time and I were walking downtown.  We hear a guy do a cat-call whistle, assuming of course that the whistle was for her (gorgeous asian girl, should have married her).

The whistle was followed up with - mmmmm mmmmm you are one lucky girl!!!

I moved from MI to Grapevine a few years ago and can vouch for the seemingly large number of Michiganders (and specifically Wolverine fans) in the area. For what it's worth, my parents and brother (former season ticket holders) moved from MI to McKinney a few years ago too.
