Meyer Placed on (Paid) Administrative Leave
MSU didn’t put Izzo or Dantonio on administrative leave.
Meyer’s probably gone. Coaches don’t normally survive this. This may be about building a case to fire him with cause.

This comment us more on point than you realize. My mom, sister, brother and I suffered through years of this type of abuse. Finally, after seeing no other recourse, my mom took matters into her own hands.
One night, after some particularly vicious beatings, she produced and hand gun and promptly put 2 slugs into my stepfather's scrotum.
It did not kill him, but he gained a permanent limo, a healthier respect for women and, as far as I know, never put hands on another woman or child.
True story.

Meyer's inconsistency in dealing with assault within his own program is remarkable. The star RB stays w/ the program, the minimally contributing RB gets dismissed. This article is fascinating and another insight into OSU under Meyer that has not been touched on in regards to Zach Smith.

Paid leave...he'll be back by mid August. Nothing at OSU means more than winning games.
To be fair they fired Woody and Tressel over scandals. OSU believes no one is bigger than their program. I bet they believe that if they let Urban go they’ll get a top-notch coach to replace him next year. Furthermore, Gene Smith can’t escape too many more of these scandals.
+1 for good points made here. OSU has had more integrity in this area than MSU.

My naive friend, never underestimate OSU's ability to have the best case scenario fall perfectly in to their laps over and over and over again.
Look I get it...but the news cycle will not clear up by Friday. It is almost certain he will not be back by then!
It’s the smart thing to do if your goal is to minimize risk, appear as though you are doing the right thing and then bring him back if things blow over and ultimately bring him back.
I am beginning to think he is gone. I think there is more directions this has the potential to lead to as chips fall and Urban knows this.
For precedent...Louisville placed Pitino on paid administrative leave before firing him after an investigation.
How often does this sort of thing end with "well, I guess he didn't do anything wrong! Welcome back coach!"??

To my knowledge, this is almost always a precursor to a resignation or firing.

Based on the way Ohio State fans have been responding, on both Reddit and 97.1 Columbus, and, I'm told, other buckeye specific message boards, the fanbase wants him fired. I think you would have a fan uprising if he is brought back.
11W feels like a maybe 50/50 split, which is way better than I was anticipating.
I just went over there and would say it is more of a 80/20 split with the 80 being blame the media, obama, and/or the victim.
Listened to ESPNU radio earlier, and every buckeye fan that called in wanted him gone.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the reaction I've seen from OSU fans. Sometimes I don't recognize the world I live in, and sometimes that's a good thing.
The one OSU guy that I know at work said he would rather see the back of Meyer too, and I know that was a difficult thing for him to say too. Small sample obviously, but if we're hearing that even 11W is a 50/50 split and that there is a fair amount of support for his canning from within the fanbase, then good.
I hope they truly feel that way but I think this is more they know he is gone so lets take the higher path and not be PSU or MSU fans

People go out of their way to seem virtuous on /r/cfb, being a neutral board and all (and also tends to be the smarter, younger sector of fanbases). I kinda doubt most OSU fans actually feel that way.

Investigation? What investigation? To my knowledge Izzo and Dantonio haven't even had a bad look thrown their way by anybody.
Trust me when I say MSU is willing to bend the rules if it means having the upper hand over Michigan. Dantonio could be caught red-handed with a bloodied knife and a dead body on the fifty yard line of their stadium, and he'd STILL be kept for as long as possible.

I'd guess they're going to investigate if he (and his wife) met their mandatory reporting duties under Title IX and the university's broader policies on domestic abuse. If he's found to have not fulfilled them, they'll try to fire him for cause. If he did make a report of some sort (which seems doubtful, given his behavior to this point) they'll reinstate him. Big question is which department at OSU is leading the investigation. If it's all contained within the AD, he has a chance of surviving. If it's not, he's most likely cooked.
FWIW, it was an associate vice president of the university, rather than Gene Smith or an AD employee that announced the leave, which suggests the investigation is not being run by the athletic department.
Thought I saw on Reddit that it isn't title IX as the abused wasn't an employee or student of OSU. Don't know for sure.
Don’t quote me here, but I’m pretty sure I read that she was employed by the university. I want to say she was a nurse or held some position in an OSU medical facility.
