META: When can we start truly OT Forum Topics?

Submitted by RGard on

Ok, I've been here over 2 years and still don't know the rules.  I'm in my mid-50s, suffer from CRS (can't remember shit) and ate a lot (I mean a lot) of beef when I lived in the UK in the early 90s.  So things won't be getting better with respect to me remembering things and knowing the rules.

When can we go fullblown OT here again?  After the bowl game or after NSD?

I've been a part of other forums that had OT Forums. They often drove away good posters due to disagreements about politics, religion, etc. Just my two cents

Football, basketball and hockey are all happening so now is the second worst time to try to get OT going, right behind when this space becomes a dedicated USMNT blog every four years.

I say go for it if it's real good and/or you're prepared to take infinity negs like a boss.

to have mods put out updated clear cut rules for posting? Wouldn't that save a lot of bashing that happens everyday on this blog? Participants are not on the same page as to what's threadworthy and what's not. Why not make it clear? Neg me for such an irrational statement.

They were posted over seven years ago. Seven. IMO they need to be updated and expanded. It's okay to post a "What are you drinking thread?" for the 100th time but a reasonable thread with a coaching question per se gets deleted? Makes no sense to me what stays and disappears here. Happy to play by the rules but please make them clear. An update every few years seems reasonable.

there's the semi-OT season that exists after NSD and then there's the OT SEASON that exists after March madness/spring ball/frozen four are all over. the latter is true OT season for here I have found, with it culminating in a very long summer of ridiculousness.

OT threads ideally are few and far between, and always subject to moderator approval/deletion. Like the person above said, think before you create the OT topic and then don't :)

There are some informal guidelines on this one, and when I say informal, I mean "it depends". When I say "it depends", that means "you'll know it when you see it".

Anyway, a couple have mentioned it, but the restrictions tend to get relaxed sometime after NSD, but a lot depends on how basketball is doing. When I first started in this role, the idea was that we would take non-OT all the way to the tournament if needed, but we've not been terribly firm about that and hoops became a grind to the point where people needed some distraction. We're pretty much hands off after the Spring Game generally.
