Meta: Player links on recruiting posts?
I love TomVH and every other recruiting insider on this website for doing what they do free of charge, but it struck me today that I always seem to want more information on the players that are talked about in the updates. If a name is mentioned quickly in a bullet point, I might want more information.
How easy would it be to link to the Scout/Rivals page for every name mentioned in recruiting posts? Especially with NLOI day coming up soon, it'd be really handy.
Anyone else think this would be a helpful addition to the recruiting posts?

How easy is it to google? Is a bird in a hand worth two in a bush?
Google their name and follow it with "rivals" or "scout"

I think it would definitely be helpful, but I don't know how much extra work that would make for someone like TomVH. I guess it depends on how he keeps the recruiting info on his own computer. If he has a spreadsheet or something with the links to their profiles, it probably wouldn't be that hard to just copy and paste the link, or create a hyperlink in his database/spreadsheet/whatever the hell he keeps that shit in. I can survive by highlighting the name, right-clicking and using the "Search Google for ___" browser feature. The Rivals/Scout profiles are normally close to the top or you can just add Rivals to the dude's name and it will pop up.
In conclusion, I think you'd need a response from one of those guys and not some jabroni like me.

You keep on using this word "jabroni" and... it's awesome!

has a page that allows you to see anyone interested in Michigan. Scout and Rivals both have similar features but are harder to find. The problem with the pay sites is that they are way behind TomVH and Mgoblog with their updated info on players, visits, and reactions.

No idea how hard it would be for Tom to do this, but remember that Tom runs his own recruiting site. I don't know how much traffic he wants to direct right from here to Scout/Rivals.

In TomVH we trust.

Is it really that hard to type the names into Rivals/Scout yourself?!?

No idea how much work it would be, but having a link on the recruiting board to a player page for each potential recruit would be kinda nice. Easy way to keep track of the info on players and a simple link to all their info.

Dumb!

Tom has competition?

Competition has Tom.

I don't think its a bad idea, but I also don't think TomVH has time to do that kinda stuff. he's doing a fantastic job as it is: this sounds like Minutiae

Yeah... All this free, accurate, and reliable information DOES leave something to be desired.
C'mon.. Do you really need your hand held through this step? Copy and paste the name into youtube or rivals and watch the highlight video... Not hard.

Ctrl+T ---> Ctrl+K ---> Type: *Recruit Name* Rivals (or Scout) ---> Click on 1st link

Mgoblog
Twitter

That seems to cover everything. Those other sites wait for TomVH to dig it up and then release long after we already know.

Only link I'm interested in is to their "Hello:" post.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:32 AM ^
Would it be helpful? Sure.
That's why I think it would be great if you would look up each recruit's profile and link it in each thread.

It's not that hard to Google (player name) + Rivals or scout. The first link is 99.9% of the time the link you are looking for.

the Chuck Norris of recruiting information. All other recruiting services should try to link to his postings.

While you're at it, Tom, could you do your own evaluations of every player of every class and put them in a seperate tap at the top. That way you wouldn't have to link to rivals/scout.

if each recruiting roundup included tags of each player's name. thus you would be able to click the name and see each post mentioning the player on mgoblog. might be something Brian et. al consider heading into 2012 recruiting.
