META (I guess): What gives, Mods?

Submitted by PurpleStuff on
So after a few beers and a couple bad hockey results, I stumbled back onto MGoBlog before hitting the sack. I was having a fun time posting until two fun, seemingly harmless threads about fast food and love songs were unceremoniously deleted. Did I miss something? What was so outrageous in both of these threads that all conversation had to be shut down, while at the same time a single poster can continue to post nothing more than "FIRE RODRIGUEZ", get negbanged viciously, then post another "FIRE RODRIGUEZ!!!!!" comment. Can anybody shed some light on what happened? Am I alone on this one?

I don't see the big deal, if endless "Fire RR" and "OMG starting QB!!!" threads can be posted, why not Taco Bell? I'd like to see a thread on the new KFC Double Down chicken sandwich.

My thoughts: it has to be the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. At first, I was like - maybe... But then I realized you'd be eating a meat sandwich. I was officially disgusted when I realized that the grilled chicken version would be more disgusting than the fried version - who wants to hold grilled chicked. The fried version is sort of like two giant chicken nuggets - not a problem eating by hand. But to me, once you start talking about a sandwich that will be more unappetizing grilled than fried (not taste, just the thought), you've come across a bad idea. Has anybody actually tried that thing?

It is just a stand at the Oakland U union. They basically just reheat frozen stuff. The closest actual Chick Fi-la to Ann Arbor is in Toledo at the Toledo Mall food court. I would know, i take monthly trips to satisfy chick-fi-la cravings.

topics that are irreverent and feature some sort of pile-on often get deleted when they have zero value. i can say for the two posts mentioned they were placed, aside, cryogenically frozen if you will, to maintain voting and point purposes. however, they no longer thrive on the MGoBoard. do not be angry. merely remember what special moments you had and move on. there will be others. perhaps others you care for more than you knew you ever could.

1) troll guy is banned. you know not the workings of the mods. 2) OT posting that boils down to "I'm bored" is going to be pulled. I know that's kind of a dick move to people who have posted in those threads but the signal to noise ratio here is dipping alarmingly and I'd like to try to keep it up.

I can definitely understand trying to stop a negative trend. It was just that as a west coast poster there is so little chance for actual discussion in the wee hours that when two halfway decent (meaning people were participating in them) threads were dropped and there was really nothing left in their wake it was mildly frustrating (especially considering the fact that all of it would have been pushed to the second page by morning).

the board, at the same time it is the offseason and especially between now and when summer/fall practices start up there is a huge lull in all things to do with Michigan sports with the only thing going on being recruiting. Maybe it would do the site good to have an OT board or have one OT topic a day that is voted upon by the masses to talk about. I would just hate for the community that you have helped bring together go to shit over the summer months. Respect, Bouje

If you need to post your ever thought regarding fastfood, why not Twitter? I rarely read anymore, and only comment on the Olympic sports (I'm including baseball in that *sob*) threads/posts because this place reads like a bunch of bored teenagers 90% of the time. Not interesting, not amusing.

I miss all the good stuff. I don't know...some of our OT stuff gets the best reaction...and the highest posts. There really IS nothing going on right now to discuss. And anything that is on-topic...well...I'd frankly rather read about Taco Bell than someone ask how many wins we're going to get/Rich Rod needs, who's going to be the starting QB, is D. Hart going commit/not commit, or any of the other dozens of threads we get over and over. Now, we have had a series of trolling going on by repeat individuals that I back the weeding out of, and the deletion of flame wars they may cause in them. Or repeat threads (of which I have been guilty of...sometimes the Board check doesn't show stuff for me...and I post something already up...just happened recently. I knew why it had been deleted when I took a second look). But, if it's going to be a bit of a community, I'm all for getting to know more about the others. No one has done it better than CRex has recently. I'd hate to think that's "too off topic". I mean, there's so little Michigan related stuff, Brian is struggling for one post a day. That's not a complaint, just a fact of how little is out there in late April. If it's just going to be M sports, then yeah, this site is going to be a graveyard till August. And that means less hits. Which means less money. Which means Brian might have to get a real job. And I don't want that. I like my content. So, I guess I'm all for policing. As long as it doesn't get draconian.

defaming Jimmy Clausen's character (by facetiously questioning his sexuality). Granted, that's not terribly mature on my part, but that is a pretty common pastime around here.

if you call someone the word rhyming with hag, you're going to have your shit deleted. it's completely out of line and goes against the usage policy. it is not entirely common for people to use such language. further, people who go on and on about how he appears gay often get neg banged. grow up.

Honestly, it was probably for the best that one got deleted. If I had been in an argumentative/easily offended/tired of dealing with my homophobic family members type of mood when I had seen it, shit could've easily gotten ugly, which would benefit no one involved. I fully understand that I'm in the minority here and try not to get bent over relatively innocuous things, but a little NTTAWWT goes a long way. /steps down from soapbox, goes to MechE final

...probably if you donate money then your threads won't get deleted. Otherwise you're just like the voting public: necessary by the powers that be, but to be treated as worthless by those same powers as soon as they have what they want from you.
