Men's Soccer Announces Recruiting Class
Michigan Men’s Soccer announced their incoming class yesterday.
The class is headlined by Francis Atuahene, ranked #13 in the country by CollegeSoccerNews.com (4 star), Midfielder Robbie Mertz, the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year in 2014 (13 goals, 26 assists last season) and defender Marcello Borges, who is on the U-18 NY Red Bulls and U-18 US National Team.
Additionally, they snagged a backup for Evan Louro in Pitt Transfer Braden Horton, a former DC United U-23 team member. He played once last season on and obtained a medical redshirt and will have sophomore eligibility. Peter Brown, a defender (Walker, MI/Kenowa Hills/GR Crew) is a Top 150 player per CollegeSoccerNews.com as well. He was also Kenowa Hills Throwball Kicker, too.
I don't know who he is, but you can tell by the way he looks to play that he's the real deal.
Atuahene looks like he has some great potential, but he looks fairly raw as a prospect from those highlights. He has a tendency to over-dribble and he takes some wonky touches (like at 1:10 and 1:16), but his speed allows for him to compensate against high-school competition. College defenders won't be as forgiving, so hopefully he can get coached up a little.
I think he's pretty raw, too but appears to be super athletic. Hopefully that talent turns into skill
Here's some highlights and stats for Ivo Cerda, a Chilean midfielder as well. The helpful red arrow shows he's good at heading the ball.
He's at CSA Wolves and from Novi
Nice to see a Wolves player continue his soccer career at Michigan. Hope nothing but the best for him!
It's pretty cool to see how much recruiting and scouting there actually is with soccer. I'm impressed. I'm also most impressed with Robbie Mertz more than any of the other films. He looks to play fast and skilled. I wasn't really blown away by anyone else.
