Men's Lacrosse upset bid falls short to #11 Yale, 15-11

It looked like they could have had their first road win over a ranked opponent, but after a 9-6 Michigan lead, Yale went on a 9-2 run to close the game. Michigan now falls to 2-2 while Yale got their first win of the season. Looking at the stats, Michigan needs to improve on faceoffs. They won 9 of 30 faceoffs and three of those were in the last four minutes.

Next up is a home game against Siena (1-1) next Saturday. This should be an easy win to start a three game home stretch in which Air Force (1-3) and Marquette (2-0) will also come to Ann Arbor.

#16 Syracuse came back from down five to beat #9 Army, 11-10, in triple overtime

Penn, who beat us last week, upset #1 Duke, 10-9

Such a game of runs. Yale was up 5-2 at one point. Now, Michigan has gone on a 6-1 run. Let's see if they can respond if/when Yale has another.

And surprisingly, we've got this lead despite only winning 3 faceoffs out of 16.

Other top teams appear to be struggling at home, too.

#8 Notre Dame is tied with Richmond at 7 in the 4th

#15 Penn State is tied with Robert Morris at 7 in the 4th

Not mentioned- Yale lost a defensive starter in the 1st quarter and Michigan took advantage. It would have been closer but one of thei Michigan attackmen who was carving up the D came up gimpy in the 4th quarter and could only stand on the crease and screen for the rest of the game. A strong performance despite the L

I was at the basketball game today and following along on my phone as best I could.  And I have to admit I got pretty excited when I saw it was 10-8. Alas, it was too good to be true. I got pretty bummed when I saw Yale start to pull away and then finish them off.

Nevertheless, this was a pretty encouraging result. Yale has started the season pretty rusty but they're expected to be very good this year. And Michigan had them on the ropes for most of the game.  It sounds like Michigan is still working out some kinks but it seems like they got talent and could be a tough out this year. Last week they were a few mistakes/easy goals from beating a team who just knocked off #1. They should be able to hang with good teams but they have to get better at closing out games - the last two weeks they couldn't score late which hurt them. THey have to get better at man-up as well.

Also - Marquette, Air Force and Penn State (they had a bad loss today to Robert Morris) have all slid closer to a toss-up now. Hopkins looks more get-able now too.  LOts of parity this year - good news for the mid-range and up-and-coming programs.

Stay tuned, could be an interesting year.
