Men's hoops finishes #2 in final coaches poll
No, the national runner up does not automatically get the #2 spot in the poll each year, so it's great to see us finish the season ranked so high. Another indicator of the respect Beilein commands from his peers. I don't think the AP poll comes out after the season, so we will end up #7 on that. Both will significantly help us in the Director's Cup as it weights several revenue sports more heavily.
AFAIK, we have only been ranked #1 for one week in Beilein's tenure (in 12-13). Congrats to the maize and blue on a great season!
Also of note:
UVA #5, Loyola #7, Purdue #9, MSU #11, OSU #21

makes sense
I know what your username says, but I still can’t force my brain to see anything other than ‘y p suck it boy’
I'm shocked that Duke or MSU were not ranked No. 2. That's where they always seem to be, regardless of what happens on the court.
For at least the next few years - they are in a rotation of five freshmen one and done starting lineup. I am fascinated to see how that is going to work.
My guess is that most years this will devolve into 5 man hero ball (these guys are playing as much for NBA scouts as for their school) with an occasional catch lightning in the bottle where the team gels and makes a championship run.
Coach K tries to avoid multiple one and dones, and will have his work cut out for him. I loved our guys talking about how they played for each other and for the M. You don't see that at schools that recruit the top players.
Coach K “tried” to avoid multiple one and dones. The last 2-3 years, that is all he has recruited.
go blue!
These polls are meaningless.
But this one is a lot of fun.
ps. congrats to MSU on a top 20 finish
Given the performance last night, I honestly think we should have dropped out of the top 25. And given all the challenges and costs in running a D1 basketball program, maybe we should seriously consider dropping down to 1-AA?
but I decided to read the whole thing. You almost got me.
You almost got....FauxMo'd....
I couldn't be prouder of this team. And while bummed last night, I think the team could be even better next year...
I mean, Beilein has experience coaching at the JUCO level. Let's just head there.
After all - 1st street in Ann Arbor "1-AA" is near where Zingerman's Deli is located. I'm all for dropping down there.
This is one of the better Maizen impersonations I've seen in the last 20 hours or so, although to be fair to the board, most people haven't been too upset with anything that went down despite last night.
When I see that FauxMo's obviously tongue-in-cheek post is taken literally by readers and downvoted, it reminds me of the Masked Marauders LP. Rolling Stone did a review of an album entitled The Masked Marauders back in 1969. It claimed to be a double album featuring a supergroup of Dylan, Beatles, Stones, etc. Any reader with half a brain could figure out that it was totally fictitious and not meant to be taken literally. (think The Onion)
However, of course, many readers did think it was real and commented on it as such. This happens on this board all the time. It amazes me how many people lack the ability to discern sarcasm, tongue-in-cheek comments. Everything is taken so seriously and so literally.
I upvoted FauxMo. I love how he tweaks the non-critical readers in this community. It is all in fun and so enjoyable.
People have a hard time discerning tone in writing. "According to recent research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, I've only a 50-50 chance of ascertaining the tone of any e-mail message. The study also shows that people think they've correctly interpreted the tone of e-mails they receive 90 percent of the time."

Also, people just skim or don't read the whole thing. I instinctively wanted to downvote him until I kept reading.
Poor FauxMo. Frequently so misunderstood.
Was firebombing the board last night after reading the first sentence... I saw FauxMo just before I was about to neg
Myron Medcalf puts us at #12, right behind MSU in his way too early poll for next year
Perfect Beilein works best with a chip on his shoulder
Way too early indeed! We don't even know who's leaving & who's coming back yet. Well, we know MSU lost everyone, I guess, so that much is good. :)
they still got Izzo....but he's having another tough week....
Better than 15 out of 16, at least.
HAIL!! Now on to hockey GO BLUE!!!
Pretty amazing.
All the people saying Michigan didn't deserve to be in the title game can suck it
We beat a ton of great teams in a row, on the road and were playing some damn good basketball. And even in our off games we were still finding ways to win, until running into the buzzsaw that is Nova
#2 in the polls, #1 in our cotton pickin' Maize and Blue hearts!!
Amazing year.
Someone hack your account? Not used to you saying anything positive.
plus the Ritalin. And the vodka. And Ambien.
Don’t forget the Fentanyl
I just had some of that for the first time today (legitimate medical procedure - not recreational). Strong stuff.
Probably H/Motel Putingrad if you ask me.
Holy shit is that really you?? I’m so happy
You must have hit the save button to quickly, as this didn't include "And it would have been better if they had fired Beilein in December."
Three pages worth of posters in the fire Beilein snowflake thread and yet I wasn't one of them. Weird.
That's because you started your own anti-Beilein threads. Your hot takes were just too special to be contained in someone else's thread.
Uh huh. Sure thing.
And you never sh!t on any of these players when complaining about recruiting. You were right and we were wrong as usual. /s
Why hasn’t someone put the kibosh on this piece of sh!t’s account yet?
...manbaby.
That team was so much fun to watch all year!! Great run and great memories! Thnx to the coaches and players for giving everything you had to the team!! Can’t wait for next season!!
Kind of funny seeing Virginia with a 31-3 record sitting behind three eight-loss teams. I guess suffering a historic upset will do that to you.
MSU at 11. Living off of history since 2000.
Good God. Seriously??
I mean that’s us in football so I wouldn’t talk crap. MSU wasn’t that bad this season should still be in the top 15. Just great that we’re number 2 HAIL!
Don’t punish other programs like Wichita State and Arizona for early exits but not MSU, everyone’s pick to win the title.
were to the #2 ranked team. As they should.
Not only did Arizona lose in the 1st round, but the PAC-12 looked like crap. Wichita St wasn't ranked that high to begin with.
I'm the furthest thing from a Spartan fan, but they have gone to five Final Fours since 2000.
Now, "Living off history since 2015"- maybe.
How many have they won?
