Media Locked Out of Practice for MSU Week

Submitted by bklein09 on
One thing that caught my eye from the Monday Presser Notes is that the media will not be allowed at this week's practices. It was said that this was being done out of paranoia and to keep the kid's focused, but I am hoping it is more than that. Personally, I hope this means that RR and GERG are putting in some more packages as we hit the meat of the schedule and prepare for our first road game and second rivalry game of the season. I would not be surprised if we saw some new stuff next Saturday and I am very excited to see what the coaches will put together for MSU. Of course, the media thing could have nothing to do with this, but in my fantasy Michigan football happy place I know I am right here. Another interesting view on this policy that ties in with the paranoia mentioned earlier is that RR is worried about MSU biased media sharing inside info with Dantonio and such. This becomes very conspiracy theory sounding, but after "practice gate" (or whatever you want to call it) I would not be surprised if that had something to do with it. To get really crazy (and don't take me too seriously here) does anyone think it is possible that RR noticed that Indy knew some of Michigan's calls and that is why the media is being locked out? Is this a one game or rest of the season deal? Hmmm...did we really land on the moon???

thought was that he didn't want to let the cat out of the bag as to exactly how much if any Tate was able to do in practice. I'm sure he would like to keep Sparty guessing as to which QB they will see the majority of.

anyone from the media is capable of doing too much damage, even if they wanted to be that devious. That crew doesn't strike me as wonky football types. Ask Drew Sharp or Angelique to explain cover 2 in 30 seconds or fewer, and I imagine they'd be hard pressed to do it. I suspect this is more about expanding the playbook, different formations, etc. and keeping a lid on it.

I mentioned it earlier and it doesn't matter as much in the context of your post but according to some of the Rivals mods, they've known for a few weeks that they would get less access this week. (There were theories that this was to hide the actual status of Forcier's injury)

I would assume it is any number of reasons all ready stated, as well as the possibility that the coaching staff wants to keep bulletin board material to a minimum. They don't want to give Sparty any more reason to be pissed off this weekend as they look to salvage their season.

Brilliant move on Coach Rod's part. I've heard this kind of stuff has happened in the past during MSU Week, though I can't remember which year(s). On two different occasions, assistant coaches under Bo and Lloyd saw an MSU coach/supporter watching practice way up near the entrance gates. Who can blame us for being extra cautious, considering the partial slant the media's been tending towards lately? Let's just hope the M in the Diag is similarly protected. I'd love nothing more than for us to finally tag the Sparty statue, though.

Actually sounds like a good idea. I remember when I was at UM, they would erect these temporary walls around the practice facility that would block out views from Stadium. At this point, distractions should be held to a minimum.
