Media Day Open Thread: Green behind Johnson & Smith..

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Media day open thread-like substance. Interesting.

Let's all overreact to everything like a classic Michigan Media Day.

I'm not sure what this means.  Does it include the nickel spot?  Or is it just the boundary and field corners and these 3 are the leaders for those 2 spots?

I know last year Green came in overweight and was a true freshman, but right now he is in the same eligibility class as both Smith and Johnson.  With his talent and recruiting profile I hope he's able to figure it out and eventually turn into our #1 back.  Maybe as the line play improves and these guys mature and develop his traits will better suite the offense in another year or so.  I'd just hate to see such a highly rated recruit wind up transferring because he never got enough playing time.

that Johnson and Smith were underrated or that, though inconceivable, Green was overrated.  Personally I just want them to win and if that means two backs are getting more snaps than Green because they are the best option, so be it.  Green was never guaranteed anything, if he wants to be "The Guy", he simply needs to earn it.

Not worried about our RB situation. We have 3 very talented backs who each have different strengths and weaknesses.  I think Green will end up starting at some point in the season if he hasn't taken over the top spot by App. State.

Why is it inconceivable? There are 5-star players every year in every conference whose actual on-field performance never matches their recruiting reputation.

But it's ridiculously too early to form any real judgements about any of our RBs anyhow.

I watched Bunting in that 7v7 that occurs in Oregon every year..  Is that the opening? or sparq or whatever?

Either way Bunting was playing as basically a WR and went up against that Top corner that was going to Bama and had some crazy catches just out jumping most of the corners by a few ft easily and snactching the ball..

I was surprised how many people said "he won't play this year" just because he weighs 230ish..

Derrick Green is 2nd string.  Hoke said Drake Johnson and Smith are 1 and 1A...making Green 2nd.  If you care about these things with 3 weeks still to go (you shouldn't).

If you list them in order, Derrick green is in the third spot. If you look at home run statistics, for example, and there is a tie for first, the third person has the third most home runs, since two people have more than him. He wouldn't have the second most home runs. Therefore, green is currently 3rd string because two players will be ahead of him in the depth chart
