That's not a surprise is it?
August 10th, 2014 at 10:52 AM ^
I'm not sure what this means. Does it include the nickel spot? Or is it just the boundary and field corners and these 3 are the leaders for those 2 spots?
August 10th, 2014 at 10:54 AM ^
I don't think that includes nickel, and this is pretty much what we've all been expecting/wanting at the corner spot. Peppers will see nickel time I'm sure.

I know last year Green came in overweight and was a true freshman, but right now he is in the same eligibility class as both Smith and Johnson. With his talent and recruiting profile I hope he's able to figure it out and eventually turn into our #1 back. Maybe as the line play improves and these guys mature and develop his traits will better suite the offense in another year or so. I'd just hate to see such a highly rated recruit wind up transferring because he never got enough playing time.
August 10th, 2014 at 1:01 PM ^
that Johnson and Smith were underrated or that, though inconceivable, Green was overrated. Personally I just want them to win and if that means two backs are getting more snaps than Green because they are the best option, so be it. Green was never guaranteed anything, if he wants to be "The Guy", he simply needs to earn it.
August 10th, 2014 at 1:11 PM ^
Not worried about our RB situation. We have 3 very talented backs who each have different strengths and weaknesses. I think Green will end up starting at some point in the season if he hasn't taken over the top spot by App. State.
August 10th, 2014 at 9:11 PM ^
Why is it inconceivable? There are 5-star players every year in every conference whose actual on-field performance never matches their recruiting reputation.
But it's ridiculously too early to form any real judgements about any of our RBs anyhow.
August 11th, 2014 at 1:10 AM ^
nod to Mgostrength's incredulity that Green, a five star, is behind Johnson and Smith.

Drake Johnson/De'Veon Smith are the top two backs.

It appears the Hoke presser just ended.
Newkirk and Sam Webb were doing updates on the Twitters.

I watched Bunting in that 7v7 that occurs in Oregon every year.. Is that the opening? or sparq or whatever?
Either way Bunting was playing as basically a WR and went up against that Top corner that was going to Bama and had some crazy catches just out jumping most of the corners by a few ft easily and snactching the ball..
I was surprised how many people said "he won't play this year" just because he weighs 230ish..

Derrick Green is 2nd string. Hoke said Drake Johnson and Smith are 1 and 1A...making Green 2nd. If you care about these things with 3 weeks still to go (you shouldn't).
August 10th, 2014 at 11:13 AM ^
August 10th, 2014 at 11:30 AM ^
While that is correct, Hoke himself said that Green was 2nd. That was my main point, besides how irrelevant it is this early in the season.

August 10th, 2014 at 2:59 PM ^
If you're behind two guys that are basically tied, you're 3rd. 3rd String, 3rd place, 3rd in line, whatever you want to call it. Also, it's way to early for this. Is it 3 weeks later yet?
