MCGUFFIE NOT TRANSFERRING! (Update: no, nevermind, transferring)

Submitted by bouje on
As soon as I heard the news I called a friend who is a freshman this year who was in the same hall as a lot of the football players over the summer (including mcguffie). I asked him if he was transferring and he said "not to my knowledge of a week ago". After doing some sleuthing he came back with that he asked a player on the football team (players name left out for obvious reasons) and that "no sam is not transferring". No the rats are not leaving the sinking ship. Calm down!

Seriously. And I hope you're right. But. At the moment, on the one side, there is Brian, who is almost always right, has better access to the M program than just about any of us, and probably wouldn't post it if he didn't think it was accurate, as he has a reputation to uphold. On the other side there is, you - no offense, again - the guy on the message board. I hope to high heaven you're right because I thought - and think - Sam is on track to be a HUGE part of the offense, maybe as soon as next year. And if you are right, by all means shout it from the rooftops. Til I hear otherwise, though, I'm going with the authority on this one.

I just hope all this extra attention surrounding him doesn't push him over the edge to transferring. He's a self-admitted introvert and didn't like all the attention he was getting. If he knows every thought and possible action he makes will be examined to such detail, he may just decide its not worth and transfer. Hopefully not though, he is one helluva exciting player to watch.

I know you guys read a lot of things, and hear rumors, but trust that Brian nor I would post anything without doing the right research. I have sources that are very very reliable, and have always been right. So when we post something please trust that. I'm not saying you have to believe us, but posting the opposite without knowing the truth does more damage, and starts more rumors. So, I appreciate your level of fanhood, and wanting him to stay, but be patient.

Clearly you have the nigh-omnipotent power to make him stay, don't you?? MAKE IT HAPPEN! In what has to be the most backhanded compliment in the history of this site, I HAVE NEVER HATED YOUR ACCURATE AND INSIGHTFUL COMMENTARY MORE. As much as you disappoint me with this, I appreciate the efforts, Tom.

Forgive me for finding this a wee bit funny when just recently you were insisting that you had good sources about the McGuffie rumors being untrue. So the "rumors" you were trying to quash were actually "news", not "rumors."

In all honesty, I saw this one coming a while ago. As Brian eluded to in the latest UV, in every quote from him or interview he declined, he seemed like the most unhappy Michigan football player I've ever seen/heard. When the first rumors popped up, it was about the most unsurprised I've been in regards to a potential transfer. Should he go, I wish him luck wherever he goes (Texas Tech would be a perfect fit and it's closer to home). Definitely bummed he won't be here for 4 years, I saw great great things coming in the near future from him.

This person I know that lives within the same 10-mile radius of McGuffie's dorm told me that he hasn't heard anything about the transfer, but he will ask his neighbors and friends. Oh wait, that person is me. Nevmind.

Just keep in mind that he could change his mind. I'm sure his parents and the coaches will talk to him about this. I can't stress this enough. Sam has told them he wants to transfer, and it doesn't look good, but we will keep you updated on the final decision.

i personally don't think it's a big deal. dude is physically small, period. he also always seems to be a magnet for huge hits. i like the guy, his heart and his spirit. i really hope he sticks around, but i don't think it's a huge loss to the program. he may be better off in the Mountain West conference, or big east, somewhere where the hits may not come so fast and furious. i'm constantly worried for the guy that he is about to get exploded into little pieces.

Brian, How do you think a McGuffie transfer and other possible transfers from "big name" players would affect the perception of the state of the program to potential recruits? I know that most believe that our probable 3-9 record will not have a negative affect on our recruiting (Tom Beaver disagrees with this, though. He thinks it has and will have a negative affect on our recruiting.), but, what about transfers? I would think it would make RR and the coaching staff's job all that much more difficult to convince kids and their parents that things are headed in the right direction if multiple players leave this offseason.

Sam is a good kid (emphasis on kid). The university, not just the football program, is better off for having a student like Sam on campus. Should Sam choose to leave Michigan, he will be missed. He has a lot to deal with right now and it may be taking a big emotional toll on him. Maybe he is making some rash decisions because he is finding things hard to deal with. We should all cut him some slack and wish him well in dealing with these hard times.

I have a cousin who went to grade school with a lady who is a beautician in the beauty shop where Sam's Aunt Tillie gets her hair done and she said that one of the girls in the beauty shop overheard Tillie saying that Sam was thinking about transferring to Hawaii.
