FWIW, I spoke with a Charlotte Bobcats scout about 2 weeks ago and asked him about these two. He spoke highly of both. He said McGary is a one-and-done kid, but he wouldn't be surprised to see him stay longer like Sullinger did for OSU. His comparison for McGary was Kevin Love. He said, was quick to say "not because he's white and a 20-20 guy. If that were the case I could've said Tyler Hansbrough." His reasoning was his jumpshot sets him apart from Hansbrough.
He said Sullinger is more Hansbrough than McGary. I told him NBADraft.net has Rasheed Wallace as his comparison, and he said "I can see that, but he's not as athletic. He also doesn't take plays off like Rasheed would. And Rasheed Wallace is one of the most raw talented players in the history of the game...that's not McGary...McGary is talented, but he also works harder than everyone else for the basketball." He said he's a Kevin Love clone.

I asked about Robinson and Stauskas and he didn't have much. But he said both will be nice college players. He said Robinson reminds him a lot of Hardaway in that he was a late bloomer and the son of a basketball legend. Said, "watch, he's going to blow up during his senior year just like Tim did."

Nothing groundbreaking, just wanted to share. But good to have both of those guys in the fold! They both sound like great players, and better people. We've had guys like Novak that simply work harder for everyone to get what they get. It'll be nice to have that same type of player in someone who was blessed with a little more basketball talent. (Not a knock on Novak...he's said time and again that he's average, but that he tries to work harder than everyone to be better than average. And he certainly is, and will have a GREAT year this year).

Unbelievably excited about both of these guys.  So much potential for the basketball team in the coming years and I can't wait to watch it unfold.  Welcome!

Fred Jackson on McGary: "moves like Kareem in the paint, but is the rare big man who can run an offense. He's like Magic in that regard. I would say he has magic upside, except he can rebound like a 6'11 Rodman."

I just don't get the Kevin Love comparisons and I love Love and McGary's game, they are just totally different.

For me, the best comparison for McGary is Boston Celtic great Dave Cowens. Both left handed, aggresive, agile, mobile skilled "big man". Here is a some nice footage from Cowens back in the 70's

Many people around here or in the NBA or too young to know who Cowens is.

Kevin Love to me would be accurate. Love plays relatively below the basket but clears out the space and is a tremendous rebounder. He also can handle the ball for his size, but he's not going to confuse anyone for Allen Iverson. Love can hit a consistent 3 or mid-range jumpshot if left open, so can Mitch. That's why I too, hate the Hansbrough comparison...Hansbrough can't shoot outside of a free throw. Rasheed Wallace has too much quickness and was WAY more athletic. Also, I've heard Michael Jordan say Rasheed Wallace may be the most talented basketball player ever...talent wise/potential wise.

Love, Hansbrough, McGary...Cowens. Those guys are workers. They have great talent. More than this board combined. But they outwork everyone in the paint and that makes them so much better than just their talent alone. Talent wise McGary is likely a top 100 player, he's #2 overally because unlike a lot of the top 100...he's #1 when it comes to working on the basketball court. Love was/is very similar. And that's why people compare him to Hansbrough...because Tyler plays with a fire and a passion and works harder than everyone else. In turn, that makes him better than a lot of other people too.

In terms of GRob3...I was happy to hear the Hardaway comparison. #1 It's always good to get someone who's still growing and getting better. A lot of kids max on in basketball early. Very few play at a super high level and continue to get better (ie. LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, etc.) So this shows that we have a head coach who can identify those guys that are going to keep improving. Hardaway is a perfect example. He's gone from under the radar...to breaking into the starting lineup...to the U-19 Olympic team...to people talking about him in the LOTTERY! That is NUTS! That is locating talent and identifying progression and potential. If Robinson III does the same, wow, hats off to our coaching staff.

I don't like the idea of pressuring kids to sign early. But for someone like Morris to be able to sign on September 5th and focus on his senior year of high school would be nice.

I'd include provisions in the early signing period like a head coach getting fired or a team going on probation. But I think it would help more than it would hurt to have a early signing period.
