This looks like the turtle version of a "Bacon Explosion," which is 2 lbs of Italian sausage and a pound of cooked bacon pieces wrapped in a 1-lb blanket of interlaced thick-cut bacon and barbequed. This was an internet sensation a couple of years ago and was subsequently written up in the NY Times.

Here is a link to a recipe with lots of photos.

I've always wanted to make this, just to say that I did. I'm not sure I want to eat it.

I prefer the Hardees Monster thickburger. 2/3 lb. of beef, three slices of cheese, mayonnaise, and four strips of bacon. 1,420 calories. 108 grams of fat. Mmm mmm good.

I worked at McDonald's in high school and people did this all the time.

I almost forgot to mention that there used to be a triple cheeseburger in the system that wasn't listed on the menu.

Cut up bacon into bit sized pieces. While I dig full slices, few people are willing to grab an entire piece of bacon that is dipped in chocolate. If it looks like 'normal' candy, you might be able to trick the non-believers into trying it.

Cook bacon to desired level. I recommended well-done-almost-burnt since chewy chocolate covered bacon can be gross. (but make your own call if you want chocolate covered chewie, since chewie doesn't like being cooked at all)

Melt chocolate. I prefer milk chocolate myself. Personal choice here.

Dip away. Make sure you get a full coat, since you don't want little bits of pig visible to scare the kids.

I would have but at the time, they had Ostrich burgers.. and man are ostrich burgers amazing.

On a similar note.. this place in general is awesome... they have these events every month called
Boozer Doodles

I strongly recommend this place if ever in Atlanta. (If you like breakfast... Flying Biscuit is pretty awesome... oatmeal pancakes!)

Although I've only lost 5. Trying to slim up by about 20 pounds the hard way (diet and exercise).

My problem is that I like food with flavor and flavor generally is hard to find without fat and calories tagging along.

Threads like this don't make the task any easier.
