Not the point of this piece, but NFL prospects should be allowed to do this as well. I think it's great. Go to the combine, work out if invited, but be able to return to college if not.

I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone brig this up yet.....but how can they get an accurate prediction of where they will go when there are so many people entering the draft that may back out ? Could hurt plenty of kids who are told wrong because NBA execs are now forced to project who is leaving.

I thought some people may not like it. It is true, and at least a little bit funny. We had a run of kids overdeveloping, now we have normal development on some kids and a few that haven't improved the way everyone has hoped they would. Wagner may be one kid who this might affect, if he plays the way he did at the end of the year next season.

This would be a nice pickup to add size to our frontcourt.

On another note I was watching the Nike hoop summit earlier and noticed the Greek Freak's little brother is still undecided. Wonder if the coaching staff will reach out to him since we have an open scholarship now.

Hey, like I said yesterday...we need NBA level talent. So I consider this a good thing, if he's even an option for the NBA that's a step up from much of what we have.

I just hope it works out in our favor...but at least we have NBA on the radar.

That exercise Brian did of trying to find a backup...I'm sorry, but we need guys who can start. Especially if it's just for a year. Find guys who can come in and start right away. Either at the 2, 3 or 4.

Beilein can't pick up a cell phone and call the kid, but that doesn't mean there can't be communication between the two parties. Most kids have someone outside of their family (whether that's a coach, friend, whatever) reach out to schools to guage interest before they make a decision to transfer. Very few transfers initiate the process with no idea what their market would be.

Has Peters given any indication as to what he might do if it turns out he'll likely get drafted, albeit with little-to-no chance of going in the 1st rd?

If that were the case, foregoing the additional year of college eligibility seems like an overly risky decision. Only 10 second rounders from the prior draft have actually appeared on an active roster.

Plus he could better showcase himself with another year in college, especially by playing for a higher-profile team in a major conference. Then again, you still gotta consider other factors such as strength of this draft class vs the next.

and grew up an Illini fan and was very close to Bryce Drew.  I'd call his interest even if Michigan is interested slim or none.  Although I would say that he's graduating in three years and if Belein ever had interest in a great kid for the program personality wise, Peters would be it.

Unfortunately, the only place in the world this connection has been made is in the heads of Mgoblog contributors and commentators.  Josh Jackson may be as likely (i.e., not).

Because, while Peters is pretty good and fits a need, it also taps into the thing where every white kid who can shoot is a 'natural fit' for Beilein.  There's a segment of the fanbase that wants Michigan to operate like a feisty mid-major instead of the powerhouse this program can and should be.  Peters would be great, but he has no connection to the program and Beilein has never taken a high caliber grad transfer.  You might as well be wishing for ultra-athletic 5-stars.  At least there is a track record there (Jaylen Brown, GR3).

I think that a completely fair estimation would be 50/50 between him returning to Valpo and transferring to a B1G school.

I don't think there's any chance he goes to the NBA this season, and the question is whether he wants to come back and essentially be a king at Valpo or try to make his way at a bigger school with a more realistic shot at the tourney this year (which we don't have without him). Personally, I think he should stay and hope he does, but transferring to M would be a pretty good 2nd best for me.
