MBB UM/Clemson Open Thread
Time to act like you didn't notice Jessica Simpson put on some weight and switch it to the basketball game!
Michigan +9.5, O/U 122

It'd be nice to be a bit more consistent w/ our 3 point shooting. Don't feel comfortable with them jacking it up all the time. 25% isn't valid enough to pull the trigger out there.
And what happened to Stu Douglass? I remember when he went large against UConn. Practically standing at mid-court draining them. I WANT THAT STU BACK!!

I'd be dead if I drank every time the PBP guy said "one and done." As if we needed more ways to use that idiom.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
Totally just read that as PBR guy.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
You got a problem, buddy. I salute you.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:20 PM ^
I read the exact same thing.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:49 PM ^
Not something you see often in a team so young. A 15pt lead at Clemson is no small feat for a team with no experience. I don't care if Clemson is that good or not. We could actually be pretty decent in a year or two after we mature.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
What the hell kind of name for an arena is Littlejohn Colosseum? Is everyone required to talk in autotune?
November 30th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
No. You have to win a quarterstaff battle to gain entry. Clemson is old school, son!
November 30th, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
That's a joke of a call. Charging in that instance, please. Block all the way.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
Good to see crappy referees exist in the ACC as well.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:51 PM ^
- Morgan looks pretty good
- This team is dangerous if the shots fall. Not exactly something I'd like to rely on, but, it can't be as bad as last year in the shooting department, right?
- The graphic that showed UM with 0 Seniors and 13 Underclassmen was like bad deja vu with the football team. When does this "Michigan has a young team" nonsense stop? Just fix it,already.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:54 PM ^

You do understand the whole "aging" thing right? As time goes by, people get older.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:15 PM ^
We should have a time machine. I've seen them in a lot of movies, why don't we get one of the ones they used? I blame Rodriguez.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:19 PM ^
Oh, is that how it works? Thanks a lot, princess. You're deep.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^
You two just need to make out and get it over with. This sexual tension is killing all of us.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:57 PM ^
Beilein has had 2 full recruiting classes and he got to hack one together really fast and got Stu and Zack out of a seemingly impossible situation (he also got poor Ben Cronin).
The difference between Beilein and RR is people realize that Beilein stepped into an absolute buzz saw of a situation because our record showed it and our facilities were horrific while RR stepped into a situation where the previous year's record had been good enough. Also people just care more about football than basketball so they're more impatient.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:54 PM ^
All of these charging calls are pushing it a bit. And the blocking call that just lead to the Clemson and-one was a bit sketchy.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
"Michigan does not have a lot of good ballgame, they have a pretty good ballgame"
WTF?! Looks very good today!
November 30th, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
I think they said
"Michigan does not have a lot of good ballhandlers, they have pretty good ballhandlers"
November 30th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
My mistake... thanks!
November 30th, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
He was referring to Michigan's young ball handlers.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
Like the win, Go Blue!
November 30th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
is a complete idiot.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:58 PM ^
I may disagree with some of his basketball opinions, but I generally don't think of Harvard Law grads as idiots.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:27 PM ^
He's probably not a complete idiot, but his ACC homerism near the end was fairly annoying. I was surprised to see that it was him when they pulled out to a shot of the commentators, as he usually is pretty balanced.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
Any reason for this claim? Because his JD from Harvard would suggest otherwise
November 30th, 2010 at 10:56 PM ^
Time to make our free throws down the stretch. That's all that's left to salt this one away.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:58 PM ^
Michigan... 1:03 Remaining
November 30th, 2010 at 10:58 PM ^
Just 4 bench points? Not a deep bench but still, more fouls than points
November 30th, 2010 at 11:01 PM ^
Who cares what bench scores? A win is a win is a win.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:27 PM ^
Umm, there are going to be other games this year, during which bench scoring might matter. We win one game and we're no longer allowed to note flaws in an apparently perfect team?
November 30th, 2010 at 11:40 PM ^
Well, the guy commenting on the bench had nothing good to say but was just complaining that the team has no bench. To me, this seemed like a typical Michigan fan comment after a victory--instead of celebrating what was a pretty big upset, he focuses solely on the negative.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
Let's make some free throws!
November 30th, 2010 at 11:00 PM ^
I hate how every single b-ball game has to end this way. Intentional fouls in the last two minutes should be two shots and the ball.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:01 PM ^
What is our B10/ACC Challenge record? I guess it's worse than 5-5, but it seems like we've won a few of these.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:10 PM ^
Michigan's record is now 4-6. This was their first road win in the challenge. Also first win for John Beilein in the challenge.
December 1st, 2010 at 12:32 AM ^
This was the first road win in the challenge? I remember us winning at Georgia Tech under Ellerbe (the game where Gavin Groninger was on fire) . . . wasn't that in the challenge? Or was it not around yet?
December 1st, 2010 at 7:38 AM ^
You're right. Michigan did win at GA Tech in 1999 in the first challenge, but that entire season was vacated because of the NCAA sanctions, so officially it's now a loss. U-M treats it that way at mgoblue.com (from the game story: "Michigan . . .withstood a second-half Clemson run to pick up its first-ever road win in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge") and the play-by-play guy on the radio did the same, saying throughout the game that Michigan was looking for its first road win in the challenge.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:02 PM ^
Looks like a win! Go Blue!
And as far as the "games will go well if the shots fall" feeling that is pretty common, I think we have enough shooters to make sure there is someone who is hot on any given night. This makes me happy.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:03 PM ^
Good job by the bball team to come in and play a tough team on the road and get the win.
Quick Wings update: 2-1 Wings. 8 minutes left in 1st. Playing the sharks.
Go Blue!
November 30th, 2010 at 11:04 PM ^
Falling apart slightly at the end, I feel. But overall I have been very impressed with the performance.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:07 PM ^
will be there this season since Michigan is so young and inexperienced. Only Stu and Novak have significant experience. D-Mo has some experience as well. Everybody else, virtually no experience.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:04 PM ^
69-61... Michigan Wins!!
FG - 22-49
3pts - 6-20
FT - 19-28
Reb - 35
T/O - 14
Pts in Paint - 30
GO BLUE!!!
November 30th, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
Great stuff. Love seeing a U-M team exceed expectations with a great performance on the road. That was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Also kudos to all here for a fun, snipe-free thread.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:29 PM ^
Snipe-free? What's that supposed to mean? You sound like a whiny Dick Fraud supporter.
(Kidding)
November 30th, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
Gotta like our freshman coming in. Better yet, they don't even get accused of sexual assault before they step on the floor to begin the season!
November 30th, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
Do you know if Lloyd Brady was there to take it in?
That's a stupid question, sorry. Of course he was.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:37 PM ^
Evan Smotrycz is Lloyd Brady.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
Road wins are always tough to come by, great win for the young hoopsters.
