From a newspaper article:

“They were on their way to D.C. at Willow Run, and apparently, right after the pilot brought the wheels of the plane off the ground, the wheels came back down and they crashed through a number of gates,” Richard Myrick said.

If they really rotated and then tried to get back down, from the viewpoint of this aviation enthusiast, it probably is a miracle this wasn’t so much worse.

Question for our UA ‘bus pilot…  If just after V1 a windshear waring were to occur, wouldn’t proper procedure to be to continue to aviate instead of risk a high-speed landing with limited runway remaining?  I have not read anywhere this is suspected… just hypothesizing why the crew made this choice.

Damn, looking at Google Earth they skidded over 1000 feet after the runway before coming to a stop, just 100-200 feet short of Willow Run and the trees surrounding it. Could have been so much worse.

who spent 2 decades in the aviation industry this was a extremely serious situation..When u are barelling down the runway theres a point of no return where u cannot abort a takeoff..It appears this plane was about at that point If they hit a major wind gust just as the plane is about to go aiirborne that affects the lift of the plane and couldve been catastrophic..THANK GOD they are all safe...I cant imagine whats going thru the teams mind right now...How it affects them can go either way...They could be very distracted and play horrible OR play the tournament of their lives...Its a toss up
