MBB Recruiting/Isaiah Livers - 2017 ESPN #70 'UofM is One of My Top Choices'

Submitted by Matt EM on

2 Months ago it would be hard to envision Livers ending up at UM, as there was literally no contact between the two parties. Fast forward to the end of June, and there is certainly serious mutual interest to say the least. I know some here took issue with the fact that I initially thought Livers was a fallback option. That does appear to be true, as Livers did not walk away with an offer yesterday. But, should Jaren Jackson or Kyle Young not drop, or give some type of indication that UM is in the top group by late July, I think Livers may receive that offer.

Easy to see the fit between Livers and UM a the 4 spot. Isaiah has range all the way out to 3, has legit size at 6'7-6'8, a decent rebounder, and above average athlete.

Is that basically how this works - come late July, Michigan needs to know/have a sense of  what Jackson and Young are doing and proceed accordingly?

Is this a kid that would jump on the offer when received?

Historically, UM/JB gives a kid a certain amount of time to make a decision or convey serious interest that warrants waiting a bit longer. But as we've seen in recent years, if the staff feels that said prospect is not a serious option, they move in a different direction. Jalen Coleman and Cassius Winston come to mind off the top of my head. In this case, I don't think there's any doubt that Livers would contemplate a commitment to UM if offered. I wouldn't necessarily say he would accept immediately, but there is no doubt serious interest there.

After watching his short highlight video, he definitely looks like a coach B stretch 4 with that jumper.  I'd be interested in knowing if he has the ability take take his man off the bounce and finish at the rim.  He looked a little hesitant to finish at the rim in the video - always electing to pull up (which looked great for a big man).

But even when he sets ball screens, he popped nearly every time as opposed to rolling to the basket.  Has anyone seen him more than the 3 minute video shows and know if he has the ability to go to the bucket and finish?

I've watched Isaiah in a high school setting, and while obviously not the same level of competition in relation to EYBL, I'd say Isaiah is an above average athlete. He's not a ballhandling type 4, but can put the ball on the floor for 2-3 dribble to take a less agile 4. Also, he's an above average passer, especially at the 4 spot. Runs the floor and finishes well in transition.

Overall, I'd say Rivals has Isaiah appropriately ranked at right around the #100 spot.
