MBB Recruiting: 6'6" SG/SF Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (Ukraine) EDITED
Per Eric Bossi, a Rivals national basketball analyst, Michigan may be in line to receive a visit from a 6'6" rising star out of Ukrainian, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk. This would be a big deal.
Mykhailiuk would easily be a top-10 player regardless of class (2014/2015/2016), and is apparently eligible to enroll now since his academics are strong (his dad is a college professor).
He was the youngest participant in the recent Nike Hoops Summit at 16 years old, and some scouts have said he's the best shooter in Europe right now, regardless of age. NBA scouts are very intrigued.
By the Compare Him To Another White Guy Test, I'd say he looks like a more athletic version of Stauskas (note the Badger-dagger between-the-legs step back 3's in the videos below).
EDIT: Sam Webb touched on Mykhailiuk this morning in the recruiting roundup and basically said it's not gonna happen. So, there's that.
so is that double dribble at 1:57 in the first video allowed in europe?
Not trolling, this kid is really good on film, and the rest of the video was very impressive. but i couldnt help but notice that at the end.
One could argue that the "dribble" before he grabbed it with both hands was involuntary or he didn't have full control. I know what you're saying tho, that would get called all day over here, or anywhere it would seem.
Nik Stauskas but athletic? Yeah, that sounds OK to me.
My praying works ;)
3:14, It took him 3 minutes and 14 seconds to make 40 straight 3 pointers. Isn't this how it's done post Stauskas?
Harris or Sviat?
Both. Plenty of bigs on the roster for the next few years.
Only 1 scholly left.
Attrition, dude. Someone will leave, Bielfeldt may not get a 5th year, LeVert may go pro, etc, etc. You don't pay attention to this stuff much, do you?
These are 2014 recruits, dude.
Not Sviat. He's likely 2015.
He is the *age* of a 2015,2016 recruit. He is another Caris or Kam.
"Mykhailuik doesn’t turn 17 until next month. But but he’s already completed high school in the Ukraine, where students receive diplomas after the 11th grade. Thus, if he achieves a qualifying score on his standardized test, he’ll be eligible to play Division I ball this coming season.
Fraschilla said qualifying shouldn’t be a problem for Mykhailuik, the son of a history professor who speaks good English."

So because he can be a 2014 recruit it means he will be a 2014 (and not 2015) recruit?
Yes, the whole purpose of coming early is strength training, acclimating to the American game and visibility.
I've seen Mykhailiuk discussed on various messages boards—Kansas, Virginia, Iowa State—as being a 2014 recruit. There has been talk of a May 21 deadline for him to decide, which is the last day of the spring signing period. I have no idea if he's still sticking with that deadline.
I saw that too, which is why I assumed he's a 2015. Assuming he left TOMORROW, he have 6 days to fly from the Ukraine to the U.S., then turn around and visit 3, 4, or 5 schools at all points in the country, then choose immediately? I mean, it's obviously doable, but just seems unlikely.
He has 3 schools and he can choose/enroll at ANYTIME so no rush.
I'm feeling claustrophobic
There was an interview with him in which he stated May 21 as a hard deadline, which makes sense as a deadline only if he's considering playing in college in 2014-15, which he is—he said so himself in the interview. (Podcast here; skip to 1:00:50.)
He probably doesn't know all the ins and outs of NCAA rules, and so at that time he probably wasn't aware that an NLI isn't an absolute necessity.
Sviat is 2014.
exactly.
You had me at Nik Stauskas
Here's the tweet I posted earlier in the Eron Harris thread, giving a bit of an indication of time frame on the visits:
@Balas_Wolverine According to Eric Bossi Michigan among 3 favorites for Ukraine phenom Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk. Visits being setup in a week.

Do we know the other two favorites?
Pretty sure they are Kansas and Virginia—I think reanimator is correct about that.
Maize Rage flaunting a Ukrainian flag? Yeah, I like that thought.
Hmm new username in the works?
Which is awfully close to Nyet, Just A Shooter...maybe a Vogrich pic for the avatar.
"Stauskas but athletic"? You are either Fred Jackson or selling Nick very short. Cumong man!
Yeah, I saw someone today write that he was shocked how well Stauskas did in the ball-handling drills at the draft combine. My first thought was, "Well, maybe you should spend more time on YouTube."
to see Nik to the between the legs to a 3 pointer on someone in the pros and watch their expression of "hell, how do I stop THAT???"
It will be pure awesome.
We could have 3 schollys assuming Levert goes pro and Hatch gets a medical scholarship. We're also not getting all Sviat, Coleman, and Harris. If I were to guess, it would be Harris and Coleman at this point. We could still theoretically get Brunson, Coleman, and Eron Harris. Possibly more if we have another early entry.
Who are the other 2 'favorites' we are among?
KU and UVA. UVA has recruited him the longest and KU is the school his former teammate, Sasha Kaun, played for..
Darnit. Well looks like we are playing from 3rd then - UVA due to familiary and KU due to "KU", "bag men" and familiar connection. He'd have to play SERIOUS defense to fit into that UVA style (it's the new old Wisconsin) - boring for him.
We do have Bacari's charm offensive though.
KU has one of the proudest histories in college basketball, it shouldn't be a surprise that top players want to go there
