the letdown is inevitable. Good we had it against Purdue, at home. But yes, if this is more than a one-off it will turn into losses, and we will not have to wait until Wicsy/MSU to see them. We play at the Great House of Swallowed Whistles (unless the home team has the ball) on Sunday. Can't give up 15+ possessions down there and expect to come away with the win.
Bright side -- LeVert continues to grow, and will hopefully get some emphasis on not turning it over quite so much. Walton does as well - both of them seem to have a great deal of untapped upside.
January 30th, 2014 at 11:54 PM ^
I think both have been tapped quite well thus far, actually.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:49 AM ^
How about, "Their upsides have been tapped, but are far from kicked." Or "They've been tapped, but the foam is just settling."
January 31st, 2014 at 11:40 AM ^
The irony of Gary Moeller's Wife talking about being tapped is incredible. Poor Gary...

We work.
January 30th, 2014 at 11:55 PM ^
The end of the game was difficult to watch. Glad Michigan got the W.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:14 AM ^
Maybe Painter knows the end is near for him and is just bitter. Pressuring and fouling Michigan while they were just trying to run out the clock was bush-league.
January 31st, 2014 at 8:48 AM ^
I was screaming at the TV for the refs to call fouls during those last few sequences, of which they only called one, that bullshit shove of Nik by the kid with the Rip Hamilton mask. They should have called at least two more.
Purdue sucks and their coach is a douche.
January 30th, 2014 at 11:58 PM ^
Can't really fault the team for a bit of a letdown after that stretch. As long as the letdown still results in a win, not a problem. I expect we'll see a much crisper performance on Sunday morning.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:00 AM ^
Don't turn the ball over
January 31st, 2014 at 12:01 AM ^
Wins are wins at this point. Tough one Sunday although KenPom gives us a 70% chance to win so hopefully that holds true. I'm never confident heading into Assembly Hall.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:05 AM ^
sparty routed them there and NORTHWESTERN went in there and won.
I'm not saying it's gonna be easy by any stretch, but this year's trip there isn't nearly as daunting as the last 2 have been.
I want that win Sunday so bad just to shut that shit eater crean up.
Also: nice game tonight, indiana LOL
January 31st, 2014 at 12:20 AM ^
Previous games mean nothing. I think fans have a hard time coming to the reality that players and often even coaches were not here for most of our bad memories nor should they care about them.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:02 AM ^
the game never felt in doubt at all, we kept it out of reach and were steady enough to make it not competitive. Good enough; I'll take it.
I expect we'll have better focus and consistency at IU.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:02 AM ^
Snowflakes outside the arena: plentiful. Inside, sparse but: Levert and Walton's efficiency, no one got hurt, and a W.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:05 AM ^
and Wisconsin plays like they did last night we still win!
January 31st, 2014 at 12:19 AM ^
We're good.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:22 AM ^
If we start having games where Robinson and LeVert are both "on," goodnight nurse. I think there is a level of excellence we expect from Stauskas and I think Walton is starting to become similarly dependable.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:24 AM ^
Assembly Hall reminds me of the old Boston Garden. You always know some BS homecooking is gonna take place. I still think we go in there and get the W. I hope to see us play some 1-3-1 on Sunday.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:35 AM ^
Haven't we been playing 1-3-1 the whole time?

January 31st, 2014 at 12:40 AM ^
I'm not even a little bit worried about the sloppiness. The last week and a half should prove that tonight was the exception rather than the rule with this team, and Levert and Walton's play went to another level (minus the turnovers). Walton in particular has gotten noticeably better every game this season. Also our defense looked the best I've seen it I think. We are in good shape.
January 31st, 2014 at 1:28 AM ^
I'm saying I didn't watch the the game. I was playing poker and we had the game on the radio. I listened as best I could but not 100%, and the one thing I heard often was all the easy baskets Purdue had. They did point out that Purdue's overall fg% was bad, but they did talk about all the points in the paint. Do you think it wasn't a big deal due to let-down-ness or did it look like a problem on d?
January 31st, 2014 at 2:12 AM ^
16 offensive rebounds lead to easy put backs.
January 31st, 2014 at 7:59 AM ^
Yes, but a lot of those came off terrible shots by Purdue that clanked off the rim in strange ways. We can certainly do better, but I think the raw numbers are a bit misleading. Purdue also got a lot of lucky 50/50 balls.
January 31st, 2014 at 10:29 AM ^
Also some of those putbacks came when we tried out a 2-3 zone on a few possessions. We did not rebound well out of the zone and paid for it.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:44 AM ^
I love Coach B. Everything he does seems right. LeVert is loose with the ball but they keep using him because we need a secondary creator. Work the kinks out before the intensity ramps up. Love it..
Also love how he used this game to work on a few other defenses. It's no wonder his teams get better and better as the season progresses. We have our base and little by little we work on other facets. I can only imagine what he would do with a talented senior laden team. Doubt we'll see that because the players are too good to stay that long but it's nice to imagine.
January 31st, 2014 at 1:02 AM ^
Won't see a senior laden team, but there will be a lot more experience next year with Levert, McGary, and Albrecht coming back from that class along with GRIII if he does the smart thing (wouldn't bet on it in this age but let's hope). Then Walton and especially Irvin will be vastly improved, and we have Horford coming back as the senior getting big time minutes. I'd be looking forward to it if I wasn't hoping for the season of Stauskas to last forever. Beilein will go down as one of the all time great coaches at Michigan when it's all said and done.
January 31st, 2014 at 1:46 AM ^
That McGary come back next year. He's already old for a sophomore and may declare regardless of draft status bc of his age and injury concern. What if he gets hurt again next year?
January 31st, 2014 at 6:14 AM ^
Should take a few pages out of Beilein's book.
January 31st, 2014 at 7:56 AM ^
Apples and oranges.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:49 AM ^
The Pistons Flight Crew missed an inordinate amount of dunks at halftime. And we threw the ball to the other team a lot. But we hit a lot of shots. Hence the win.
January 31st, 2014 at 12:55 AM ^
Purdue always gives us a hard time and we're coming off a tough stretch to boot.
Levert and Walton keep getting better, Nik is, well....Nik, Morgan/Horford keep playing at a very dependable level.
GRIII needs to get back to playing the way he was before these last 2 games, I have faith in him, he steps up a lot when we need him to.
The coaches are top notch, we're in good hands, if we can go a minimum 6-4 before the BTT and end up going at least 22-8 after the regular season, I would have to imagine that would put us as the 1st or 2nd seed, great position to be in.
Just think how good we would be had McGary been playing all along and healthy.
January 31st, 2014 at 6:35 AM ^
I am not sure the last time I saw an 8 loss team get a 1 seed. I agree that a 4 loss Big Ten team is probably the champ or second place so a 2 seed should be a given.
January 31st, 2014 at 8:45 AM ^
I think he means 1 or 2 seed in the Big Ten Tourney.

Beat IU!
Payback for letting the game at crisler get away last year.
January 31st, 2014 at 1:31 AM ^
And not necessarily for payback, but for no other reason than I HATE Crean!
January 31st, 2014 at 2:08 AM ^
Hard to get excited playing Purdue. At least they can win when they put it on cruse control. I think they will be up for IA on the road.
January 31st, 2014 at 2:28 AM ^
McGary could also come back and increase his draft stock very easily with a veteran team surrounding him. It depends on how much he just wants to get to the NBA right now vs. being a lottery pick.
January 31st, 2014 at 3:33 AM ^
do anything but score garbage baskets?
If UM rebounded better they'd have won by 30.
January 31st, 2014 at 3:35 AM ^
The guy next to me had on enough awful cologne for 2-3 dudes. Naturally, he spent most of the game yelling about how a particular player stinks and should be benched for making so many mistakes.
January 31st, 2014 at 3:39 AM ^
I've enjoyed the B1G season so far. I'll still love the team even if they don't win at Assembly hall, but if we win there, I will love them even more!
January 31st, 2014 at 5:13 AM ^
I'm glad we used a sloppy performance against a lesser team, I am a strong advocate for every conference game is a championship game, because as this leave is proven, it's true... But this team played down to it's competition (which is easy to do) and came away with a solid win.
January 31st, 2014 at 6:20 AM ^
Separated at birth. Will be a great matchup. IU is improving like UM. WILL BE A TOUGH, GREAT GAME
January 31st, 2014 at 7:42 AM ^
This team is gelling beautifully. Can't believe how we're growing and maturing as the season goes on. Just a completely unselfish team. You seriously have 4 or 5 players who can get you 20. I hope Beilein and this staff go nowhere forever!
January 31st, 2014 at 8:09 AM ^
Basketball snowflake threads should be reserved for bigger games.

A win in the Big Ten is a big game! 10 game win streak is a big game, 1st place in the Big Ten is a big deal!
