Maryland and Rutgers Negbang Welcome thread

Submitted by Lionsfan on

Welp, it's officially official.

The Big Ten is now 14.

Yay?

The conference already has a handful of trophy games, 12 to be exact, but the Terps are looking to join the fray. From a geographic standpoint, Penn State is a logical choice. Rutgers too. In fact, according to the Post, the Terps "have entered conversations" with Rutgers and Penn State "to create new trophies."

In my lifetime, there may be a Michigan lacrosse game in Michigan Stadium whose attendance exceeds that of a football game. What will the over/under be? 60,000?

BUT, I actually think Maryland will eventually do well and be a good pick up for the B1G. Rutgers is a tire-fire of an addition.

Maryland will help add a solid basketball and baseball program, and they've had some success in the 21st century in football while being practically bankrupt. Put them into Jim Delany's pockets, and I could see their football program getting to the level of a Baylor (weird uniforms, upgraded stadium, talent rich recruiting area, bowl team every year and challenger in the conference every couple of years.)

I did however see the first SEC joke towards the addition last night on Twitter: "I can't think of anything more appropriate than a turtle going to the Big 10. #B1GSpeed" I must admit that even I laughed at the joke a bit.

In a changing world of conference realignment, I'd much rather be the conference that grows then the conference that gets poached.   I'll take a Rutgers game over losing Iowa to the Big 12.

I remember how many people complained about Nebraska.  What a great addition to the conference is Nebraska and their fans.

No use in complaining.
