Martell Webb

Submitted by Magnus on
Martell Webb is rumored to be another guy who's thinking about transferring. I'm not sure if that will happen or not, obviously, but I thought he had a chance to be a next-generation TE for us. Oh well. Last off-season I remember posting about how we'd have about eight tight ends on the roster this year. 1. Butler (moved to DE) 2. McLaurin (on medical scholarship) 3. Watson (buried on the depth chart) 4. Koger (starting) 5. Massey (played sparingly) 6. Criswell (moved to DL) 7. Webb (transferring?) 8. Moore (not heard from this year - heard rumors that they might move him to tackle, but I don't really believe that rumor) So we went from having 8...to having about 4 by the end of the season.

I disagree michfan. I recall RR saying he hadn't really use TEs much because he never had any good ones. He wanted to try it though as we have some good ones now and great recruiting power. Having a receiving threat at TE would add another facet to his offense and give the opposing defense one more threat to cover. We've definately had some success with TEs already this season. The Koger catch towards the end of the Wisconsin game and the wide open Massey at the end of the NW game which would have been a TD if thrown better.

Do you mean Butler and *Helmuth*? I don't think Webb would have played anywhere else. Butler was a potential DE coming out of high school, and Helmuth was a pretty good DE in high school as well. I think Webb was/is purely an athletic tight end/big receiver.

living 30 min from Trotwood and watching Shaw (when he was a PSU commit, insert snake oil) and Moore I really want him to do good at UM. If they are thinking about moving him to Tackle, he's gonna have to get much much bigger. I hope Webb doesn't leave though, its sad to see any player leave, even Chambers or Baab.

The Rivals guys suggested that Babb wasn't buying into the program and was a malcontent on the practice field, in film sessions, etc. I get the feeling that Chambers just wants to go elsewhere and get some playing time, but Babb was just being a jerk. I heard something about Webb, but it's kind of iffy, so I don't want to say it. But it wasn't positive.

Rivals didn't give specifics, but did mention that there were rumors surrounding Webb. And the comment from Rivals was that during film sessions and practice "Babb's concentration was repeatedly not on the task at hand."
