Mark Dantonio and "Red-Lock" status.

Submitted by theytookourjobs on

WTF is this supposed to mean and why aren't we making lots of good jokes yet?

Coach Mark Dantonio, when asked Wednesday if anyone who participated in the April 1 scrimmage has been suspended or are no longer with the program, said other players beyond the 15 who did not dress for the game are in what he termed a “red-lock” situation.

“Well, we red-lock people from time to time. We use the term red-lock for various things,” Dantonio said on the Big Ten spring football teleconference. “So yes, there has been. That’s a constant. There is constant people in and out of different situations. I think that is normal.”

don't want to see the details for myself, my point is that Dantonio will not be able to declare "the situation was handled appropriately" with impunity and without everybody being able to judge for themselves if it was or wasn't.  Michigan Teacher was implying that these three players could be back on the team at the end of the investigation without anybody ever knowing what they were suspended for in the first place.  I think that is far-fetched.  If the information is not available right now to the public it certainly will be at some point, it can only be swept under the rug for so long.

Didn't they say the further investigation was concluded and material was handed over? My thoughts were that it was turning into more of a "nothing to see here" situation. I have no real basis for this and don't really know why they are sitting on the info (or non-info). Maybe someone with more informed speculation can say if this a fairly typical timeline or not.

to this I kind of respond the same way as I stated right above this.  If "there is nothing to see here," why is the program acting as though there is a bunch of stuff to see?

I'm starting to wonder if somebody else told Ingham County that "we will take this from here."

I think you may be right because this is a huge title ix investigation. With the Nassar mess comes extra scrutiny and a much higher legal bill so I would think this is much bigger than your normal swept under the rug or sit on thier hands type situation.

I think we're overreacting a bit on what "silence" means solely because this is little brother.  To put this in perspective, did Harbaugh divulge all the details of Grant Perry's situation? He was swift to suspend him, but he hasn't been publically forthcoming (its quite possible I missed it if he was) about any details. A coach really has little to gain and plenty to lose by speaking about these situations before police & university investigations are complete.

People need to start questioning the Ingham county prosecutor. What the fuck is the problem?. If you do not know how to do your job, then step the fuck down. The Michigan state police have finished the investigation and have asked for three arrest warrants. Once again what the fuck is the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Sorry for the language Michighen, but like most people on here I get angry when it seems like nothing is being done about women being gang raped. I feel it happened and I also feel there will be no charges in this case along with other cases everywhere. I don't know who to call and doubt I would get much of an answer, but since it was your idea maybe you can call and let us know what is going on. Allright!!. Thanks chief.

may be the problem.  cops submit warrant requests all the time for which either no case is ever filed, or for which much less or different charges are issued despite what the cops asked for.

i don't know for certainty that no case will be filed against the 3, but as the time passes, unless there is possibly some DNA evidence that is taking time to get tested (MSP lab is not that fast, big back log on DNA), then this might be a big 'no call' as far as criminal charges.  still might get a bunch of people kicked out of school though.

Intentionally being vague about what might classify as a "red-lock" situation and throwing multiple scenarios into one bucket.  Is the guy ineligible because of grades, is he suspended for missing a workout, did he spit on a parking cop, did he rape someone, did he throw racial slurs at teammates?  "It's anyone's guess and I'm not gonna tell - but he IS red-locked."

Alllllll that said.... the national "hot take" media would CRUSH him if he started talking about current players roles in crimes, he's smart not to provide any sound bytes or quotes, as much as it frustrates us and likely the victims of his players' actions.

Wow - this is some Ralphie Wiggums-level babble from the Dean of Discipline:

That’s a constant. There is constant people in and out of different situations. I think that is normal.

On the banks the Red Cedar,

There's a Lock that's known to all,

Its specialty is whining,

Those Spartans 'bout to fall....

Spartan lads are never bonded,

All through the trials they fight,

Fight for the only colors,

Orange and White.

Go right thru for MSU,

Watch the years keep growing,

Spartan lads are really locked,

They're fighting with their schlocks.

RAH! RAH! RAH!

See the prosecution fading,

We're going to win this trial.

Fight! Fight! Rah! Team, Fight!

Victory for MSU.

I like yours a lot...a lot.

But I don't see MSU fans getting excited about Red Lock status, whereas they will sing a song that says "Victory for MSU" with a vim, if you catch my drift.

They do not pay much attention to the words other than "victory" and "MSU" and "fight".

I'm saving yours though.  It's good.  Suspensions kind of slows the rhythym down though; wish I had a different word there that rolled off the tongue a little better.
