Marcus McWilson to Nebraska

Submitted by Leaders And Best on

2013 safety Marcus McWilson from Youngstown (OH) Cardinal Mooney committed to Nebraska today.  Top 20ish Ohio player (Rivals #142 player overall) that had didn't have a Michigan offer.  Still plenty of time to Signing Day but interesting that another top Ohio player leaves the state for now.  Urban Liar has adopted a completely different strategy from Tressel by neglecting top 250 talent from Ohio for other elite players nationally instead of locking up the home state.

I'm equally confused.   Did the OP just accidently make QUITE POSSIBLY THE FUNNIEST JOKE EVER??????  I'm sure he meant to type Meyer (after all that is his name) but my mistake he wrote "Liar".  Which he is of course.  The world's biggest liar whose pants are most certainly are on fire. It's a play on words!!!!!

This will probably be on Letterman later tonight I'm sure.

I can definitely see Meyer abandoning heavy Ohio recruiting in favor of national recruiting efforts. It's not always the case, but at least as far as it goes for OSU, home state recruiting seems to be vitally important for their success. I think there's just so much talent in Ohio that the kids at the top have already faced plenty of pretty good talent themselves and learned a lot. I'm not sure that's always the case in other states.

So let's see. Neither Michigan nor Ohio State nor any other top echelon school offered this athlete from Cardinal Mooney in Ohio.  He accepts an offer from Nebraska (whose head coach and offensive coordinator both played football at and graduated from Cardinal Mooney), and the story is about Urban Meyer not recruiting Ohio? It seems a stretch to base that judgment all on a single player.

Ohio State was a train wreck the first half of the season.  The win over MSU was a good win for them. Wisconsin and Michigan both dominated the Cornhuskers.  They are a decent team and used to have some really good teams, but I would still consider them out of the top echelon in the past 10 years.

But I will join the chorus of those who eschew overdoing the "Urban Liar" stuff. TSUN has never bothered me, but lots of overdone insults, slurs, internet acronyms, and posts that amount to sandbox insults ("You're a poo poo head." "Am not. You're stoopid." etc., etc, etc.) are what I came to this board to avoid.

I can live with intelligent OT discussions. I am happy to read about most anything MIchigan. I am interested when we have an interest in the same recruit as a rival. But a line or two of insults with absolutely no content or substance . . . please take that elsewhere.

Regarding the OP, the reality is that Michigan has 22 - 23 slots, and needs to be highly selective in their offers. We can't offer everybody, and neither can Alabama, or Ohio, or USC, or Auburn, or Texas, or Florida State.

I think Urban Meyer will do well. I already know Hoke will do well. Unlike several other coaches, Meyer has generally represented himself very well, and I only expect more of the same, as I do of Hoke and the rest of Michigan's staff.
