March Madness: How Broke Is Your Bracket?

Submitted by MaizeMN on

After the first 32 games I'm staggering into the weekend at 23-9 with my picks. I'm also assured of at least 3 losses in the next round, but 6 of my  E8 picks are still alive. How are you MGoBloggers doing so far?

...Georgetown killed me though. My gut told me they'd get upset too, I just didn't have the stones to take FGCU.

I was 15-1 after day 1...my only loss was Colorado St. over Missouri

I pretty much had "chalk" the 2nd day...Minnesota was the only low seed I had winning.

I was 11-5 the 2nd day. I loss Wisconsin, NC St, Kansas St., Notre Dame and Georgetown. The Hoyas and the Badgers are the only teams I had advancing to the Sweet 16.

So I'm 26-6, but I've only lost 2 Sweet 16 teams in Georgetown and Wisconsin. However I had G'Town them losing to not Florida...but Minnesota! (B1G Homer). And I had Wisconsin losing in the Sweet 16 to Gonzaga (maybe not a B1G homer).

I've got 14 of my 16 Sweet 16 teams and 8 of 8 of my Elite 8 (Louisville/Duke, Gonzaga/OSU, Michigan/Minnesota, Indiana/Miami-YTM)

^I'd love to see that Elite 8. Partially because half of it is filled with B1G Teams.

Have 13 remaining of my Sweet 16, 7 remaining of my Elite 8 and all of the final 4 remaining. Sitting in pretty good shape, first round (yes, I will also call this the 1st round and the others play-in games), does not really matter in the long run as long as your 16/8/4 are in good shape. Saying that, my bracket could fall apart in a couple hours.

Mine's pretty screwed. I dropped 5 of the early games but won the 4 late ones. Wiscy and Georgetown losing hurt bad but I know the guys at work had them both going far too so I'm still right around 2nd, I would hope.

would beat Georgetown.  So I put it on my bracket.  I'm perfect in the SOuth so far and only missed Colorado St. in the Midwest.  But in the West I missed 5 games, including New Mexico and Wisconsin.  I had Wisconsin going to the Elite Eight and NM going to the Sweet 16.  My final four is still intact.  I have 24 of 32 so far, but I am guaranteed to lose at least two this weekend.  I'm in the 97.1% on ESPN's bracket.

I had Wisco and Indiana in the finals.  I was much more conservative in that one than in my online brackets.  My Yahoo bracket is fairly swiss cheese as well.

24-8, with 4 of the misses coming from the West (Wiscy, KSU, UNM, ND).

But I've got 13/16 Sweet Sixteen teams (all but KSU, UNM, and Georgetown), 7/8 Elite Eight (all but KSU), and 4/4 Final Four teams left.

I kind of wish I'd put money on this thing in one of the pools that invited me now...

Don't know that I've ever lost a Final Four team so early. Had no confidence in Kansas so it came down to Georgetown vs. Florida, debating Big East > SEC vs. statistical analysis. Then Kentucky and Tenessee bombed in the NIT and my recent SEC strength confidence got shot. And my wife took Florida, so I figured I had that covered if it went the other way. Still have the rest of the 8 left, and the ony other team I had winning another game was Kansas State, and that doesn't hurt too much because the Badgers lost first.

I guess as long as I can stay the leading point person with Louisville winning I have a shot (particularly if they beat Indiana), but I can't bleed too any more points along the way. So I not only want but probably need Michigan to mess everyone's bracket up by going to the Final Four. Or worse comes to worse, VCU. I'd say San Diego but I don't really give them a shot. If not us, North Carolina wouldn't hurt either.

Screw Georgetown.

NOT a good year for me so far.

16-16 headed into the weekend.

5 elite eight teams left

3 final four teams left.

On the upside, I picked FGCU and Ole Miss. I almost looked awesome with Southern, but stupid Gonzaga had to win.

Overall 22-10. I've lost two elite eight teams (went a little crazy with Belmont and Colorado), but I called the Oregon, FCGU, Ole Miss, Wichita State, and Iowa State upsets. I had Davidson as well. I wish they hadn't choked on applesauce.

I have Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Indiana in the final four...  So I'm still good lol.  And yes, I have Michigan winning the championship.  They beat Michigan State.

I had no faith that Miin would beat Cal, but firmly believed our friends in Madison would handle Florida Gulf Coast. I had Georgetown as an Elite Eight team, but Harvard and Colorado St past the first round --- who'da thunk it?

My remaining sort-of Cinderella is Butler, whom I have in an Elite-Eight rematch with IU.

I got only 3 right in the West bracket. And I'm still in the 83 percentile of people. When I look back over it, I knew Pitt would lose, and I completely forgot that Ole Miss had Henderson. Ohio State is in the championship game for me though, so hopefully they don't somehow screw it up.

Luckily, my entire Elite 8 is still in tact besides Kansas State. When picking them it was more of a lesser of two terrible teams. Gonzaga is the worst number one seed in the history of college basketball.

I did a random bracket based on Massey's probability table (wasn't going to use KenPom because of Florida), and at the end of Friday it was just one game out of first at ESPN. The random bracket is kicking my real bracket's behind.

Except that in an odd churn of the random number generator it spat out New Mexico as the tourney champion, beating Michigan in the final. So it's broken too, eventually.
