Manningham's non-allegiance

Submitted by MGoGarbs on

Reminded once again about Manningham's fallout with the school by his introduction on SNF- "Warren G. Harding" is his school of origin. Sigh... We still miss you, Super Mario.

I used to hate whenever Woodson would say, "Fremont Ross High School." Then I saw the feature last Thanksgiving on Fox about his $2 million donation to the new Mott's Hospital, and the visits he makes to the kids. All without a word of publicity or a camera in sight. In fact, CW was very reluctant to do the story. Howie Long called it, "quiet excellence." aka a Michigan Man. So I got over it.

What a jerk!  I can't believe he mentioned his high school rather than his college!

This is the first time I've heard of something like this.  Consider my mind blown.

If you don't like the topic, then fine. However, the only way that I find out about this stuff is when it gets posted. That's why most people come to this board...to find stuff out that they normally wouldn't hear about.

The OP didn't declare gloom and doom, he just stated the facts and a desire for Manningham to be lighting up the sidelines for us again. The gloom and doom talk didn't start until people started making a big deal about it.

Actually, a Mike Hart was a 3-star thread is completely worth being posted, because:

1.  It makes him more awesome.

2.  It reminds us of his awesomeness.

3.  We need to be reminded of his awesomeness more.

4.  Everyone should now go re-watch a game with Hart in it.  The guy just cannot be tackled on the first three contacts, no matter how hard those first three contacts are.  It's absolutely ridiculous.

Manningham always seemed to have a bad attitude while he was here, like he was entitled to something. That never really sat well with me. I could care less where he says he played ball.

I think it's because people aren't happy with the spread offense taking over here. It's not "Michigan Football" like it's always been. As soon as it kicks in and we win some more games it will hopefully start to go away. They don't like Rich Rod either, I'm guessing.

I've said it before, I'll say it for a while in the future. I think RR is more of a Michigan coach than people realize. It's not the same system, but he disciplines players and makes sure that even a star athlete has to put in his dues to see the field. Sucks that some feel the need to transfer just because he expects a lot from players, but I think he's more "team" oriented (Bo anyone?) and that makes him different than many coaches that support star athletes over the team

David Harris did this also this year, anyone think he has a fallout with Michigan? I just think sometimes guys might actually want to say something about the little guy.

I remember Larry Foote doing this during Super Bowl 40. I first thought "did he have a falling out or something with UofM?" but later realized he wanted to give attention to his high school. I'm sure Mario is doing the same.

This wasn't intended to start a flame war (although I guess I should remember that this is the internet). It was to comment on a Michigan player in the pros, express my appreciation for what he did, and give my hopes that he would credit our school in the future. I'm not complaining, I'm not being negative, and I'm not taking out my frustration from Saturday's game. Next time I'll just start some rumor like OMG TERRELLE PRYOR IS TRANSFERRING, it'll be a better use of my eventual negbang.

Wait Manningham gave a call out to an institution he spent 4 years at that also may have played a roll in defining who he is today?  It's not like he lived in a test tube until Lloyd recruited him.  Why the hell does the board meltdown every time a player fails to say University of Michigan...are we really that insecure?

maybe I shoud say vice-versa and I think that totally is childish which Mario may still be.

It seems UM has more of this problem than other major schools or am I just more  sensitive or aware of it because it's Michigan?

But it's a slap in the face to the university and it's fans, not to mention it can't look good in the eyes of recruits. When your primo players refuse to say they attended the University of Michigan, no good can come of it. And save the "oh, but it gives kids at those high schools attention!" Bullshit. If you are a D-1 prospect they WILL find you. I still love Mario but if he don't love UofM that may sway my opinion of him. Regardless of what he did here.

Agree wholeheartedly. I know others do it sometimes and I don't think it's meltdown worthy, but it's clearly becoming a trend that UM players seem to do it more often, and I find that disappointing and disrespectful. I didn't see the intros tonight, but recently I've seen some games in which UM players are the only players out of 44 starters to announce their HS instead of college. I wish I had stats to back it up, but I don't buy the "no big deal he's just giving a shout out to his HS/everybody does it" logic.

NFL players seem to be turning back time all the more, giving credence to their pre-college institutions of learning.

I mean, just the other day, I heard Lamarr Woodley give credit to Smiley Face Preschool.

it does seem that a lot more UM alums use the HS than players from other schools.

Its still not the worst thing THE Ohio State Univerity  and the Miami guys saying THE U bug me more
